An acquaintance has asked me to write--or help her write--a very personal and graphic story about something juicy that happened in her upbringing.

Assuming the subject matter will be of interest to a women's mag, how do I approach this? Should I pitch it as having two authors, write in the third person, or use as Told To?

Also, if I'm the sole writer of her story, I assume I cannot pitch it for a personal essay column. Correct?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I think you have two choices --either pitch this as an "as told
to" -- or act as her editor as she writes an essay. She writes
a draft, you edit, she rewrites etc. You charge for the editing.
Either way, you also need to have something more than a juicy story. You need a take away, a lesson learned, etc.
