| worldofnatasha | Posted – 1/20/2008 9:44:03 PM | show profile I have a personal essay about Christmas I wanted to pitch to Real Simple -- I know everyone says magazines have crazily long lead times, but I feel sort of silly sending a christmas essay now, when the holiday just ended. could anyone tell me if I should indeed pitch holiday-themed stuff now? or if not now, when? thanks so much for your advice! |

Once upon a time I edited personal essays for a large consumer magazine, and we would often receive pieces that were seasonally off -- for example, someone would submit a remembrance of summer camp when we were planning our December issue. No matter -- we'd simply buy it and sit on it for a few months. |
