I'm very new to the book publishing industry (graduated 2006, at my entry-level job now), and while I love the editorial work I'm doing, and I hopefully will continue to do, I think I'm done with New York for the time. I went to college here, then lived here for two years, and I really want to move out to the west coast, preferably the Pacific Northwest. But, I want to stay with this profession. Does anyone what kind of publishing circles are out there? I know there are many publishers in CA, but I'm hesitant because most are in high-cost areas, similar to NYC.
I would love to live in Seattle or Portland, but I feel like it's naive to think that I can relocate there with a book publishing job. Am I right? Or can anyone offer me some hope?
Thanks!

Book publishing on the west coast
Hi Cwarner,

I moved from NYC to Seattle last year and I work for a small book packager/press. Feel free to email me off the board!

i am also interested in making a foray into book publishing, but in the los angeles area. it's been difficult to find any, and i'm starting to think that i'll need to move to NY again (which i don't want...).
