Unlike many, we are fortunate to both still have our jobs (for now) and our mortgage under control, with no debt other than the mortgage.

Therefore, since our $600 a piece rebate is being funded by money borrowed from China that our kids will eventually have to pay back, it seems only fair that we should give this rebate to them, as a small token of our appreciation for the many debts of our generation (and the previous) that they will be paying back until their deaths. So we're putting it in their college funds.

I hope in doing so we save the economy.

If you don't want it why don't you send it back??
UGoGirl Posted – 1/24/2008 10:09:25 PM | show profile
Because my kids are paying for it anyway.

No No No
Don't mean to pick on you but your the first i have came across.

People are gonna complain about the rebate.Your reasons , plus others like i don't need it, Bush sucks, and other things.

But each one of you will take that check and put it in your pocket and spend it. Just like Bush wants you to do.

Why do you want to do what Bush wants??

Why not do this--- send it back, rip it up, burn it?? Better yet give it to a homeless person or donate it to the needy.

I'm giving it to the needy, my children. They will be saddled with paying off the debt of this entire generation and the once that preceded it.

I'm going to put it in my savings account -- because I don't have any debt.

Putting mine towards a quick-n-dirty reno of a living-room closet into a third bathroom. I'm not planning to move for a while, but it will add to the value when I'm looking to sell down the road.

>> People are gonna complain about the rebate. <<

This is such a lame argument you're making. This administration had cut taxes on the wealthy and borrow money from China to nation-build Iraq while cutting health care to poor children and banning the US government from economy-of-scale (read: a basic tenet of capitalism) bulk purchases of pharmaceuticals for medicaid and making wounded war vets pay for their own meals at Walter Read.

And we're hypocrites unless we give the $600 rebate to a poor person??

You are a tool. Objectively speaking, that is.

Being that it will cover approximately 1/10th of my mortgage. I guess I'll put it towards that.

I remember
. .. .the first time Georgie passed one of these "stimulus" packages. . .it was around 2002 or 2003 and I just used the paltry 200 bucks towards my ENORMOUS COBRA bill. . .I will do the same with this coming check. Because I have been laid off 3Xs since Georgie has been in office.

This "program" solves NOTHING! It only perpetuates an already bad financial situation: American consumer debt and government debt. Smoke and mirrors. Razzle dazzle b.s.

We need jobs not pathetic handouts!!!

I don't get these republicans. They constantly go on about tax cuts for large companies and the wealthy, about having small government, but then they turn around, print, and spend money, billions on Iraq, 100s of millions to bail out banks, and create these stupid stimulus packages.

Are these republicans really democrats in disguise? They sure spend like the democrats.

To quote the former governor of Texas Ann Richards: "Poor George, he can't help it."

Maybe I'll put it towards the $850 it now takes (at $3.39 a gallon) to fill the oil tank to heat my home.

The more I think of this rebate the more insane it seems to me. China, can we please borrow some more money from you so we can cut checks for everyone? Just add it to our tab.

Since it's just deficit spending, why not give $10,000 to everyone? Tack that onto our kids' tab while we're at it.

If they want to act like responsible adults and increase taxes for the wealthiest Americans in order to fund this rebate, then I'm all for it. But going deeper into debt? It's flat our bribery by our idiotic elected leaders (both parties here I'm complaining about ).

I don't understand why the Democrats don't stop this. This is nothing but a pre-election bribe.

UGO, if a drooling idiot came up to you on the street and challenged your political beliefs or behavior, would you bother answering him?

$600 won't do anything! Yest I could use a upper end photo hard drive.

I will pay off a credit card. If it is already paid off by the time I get the check, I will spend it in Europe when I go in May.

Stanley, if you're talking about "he_who_changes_his_name_every_hour" and my responses/interactions to him, I consider him no more than a cartoon character.

At least with Hank (who has gone MIA) and Pman (who is apparently now a Democrat) I could argue and discuss and reason (even if not break through). With "he_who_changes_his_name_every_hour" it's not even worth the time.

What, you thinking about doing it?

See, case in point. Cartoon character.

As a freelancer, I get checks of various sizes in the mail everyday. For me, the rebate wouldn't be anything special -- I'd just put it in the bank with the rest, but wouldn't earmark it for any special purchase. Which, of course, is the exact opposite of what the government would like me to do.

UGO
perhaps it IS hank and he's gone off the wagon!

I half wondered if it could be Hank in disguise.... but I don't think so.
