Hi folks, remember me? I used to try to moderate this forum.

We've recently gotten access to some fun new moderation tools for our forums. This means that the time for those of you who still find it necessary to treat the forums an arena for despicable statements has come to end.

Please understand that mediabistro.com is instituting a fundamental shift in the way TV News Corner is moderated. For anyone unfamiliar with our expectations, check out this post for a straightforward explanation.

In brief, you'll want to stay away from the following:
1) Personal attacks
2) Inappropriate language
3) Repetitive posts that don't contribute meaningfully to discussion.
4) Off-topic posts
5) General jerkishness

If y'all want to keep playing, it'll have to be by the rules. Why, you may ask? Well, because now we have the means to enforce those rules. If you?re unable to show that you can behave like professionals (and at the very least upright-walking adults), you will be banned from the forums immediately and permanently.

Have a great weekend.

Olby, I know that Pip required you to change your previous inappropriate screenname. It seems to me that adapting the screenname that was already used heavily by another poster is not in the spirit of the new board rules. Don't you think it would be less confusing to others if you simply went back to one of your many other screennames, or chose a new name that hasn't been used here before?

If there was currently another board account with the name 'jazzreport' associated with it, then our system would not have allowed it to be chosen.
Any past postings from this user are now labeled with their current screen name, so confusion should be minimal.
Our users have the freedom to choose their own screennames and change them when they please. I don't think the first solution when one person chooses a screenname you don't like should be to take that freedom away from everyone.
Also, if no one had let the user know that 'jazzreport' bugged them, the user probably would have tired of it quickly and changed to something more colorful. I doubt, now, that that will happen for some time.

Has far has #3
Is it ok to post about the ratings that come out on a weekly/monthly bases??

Or would it be better to post just one topic dealing with each and keep adding to it has time goes by?

Pip, FYI: There are hundreds of posts on the MB message boards under the name "Jazzreport," posted by someone else who was and is a well-known poster (and someone who is an "enemy" of Jazzreport Jr. That screenname is still referenced now and then in other people's posts.

The poster calling himself Jazzreport now has gone by many other screennames. For example, he used "olbypocrisy" for a long time (which is why some other posters continue to refer to him as "olby"). If I decided, gee, I don't like my screenname -- I'm going to start calling myself... Olbypocrisy! What do you think my motivation for that would be? And would you not think that was simply confusing?

It honestly confused me when I suddenly saw the name Jazzreport again.

Hey Pip....
We'll play by the rules...and maybe you folks could do the same.
Stop the Lib bias and all the "in the tank" articles on KO and
and keep your nit-picking criticism of all things relating to FoxNews to a construcvtive, and fair and balanced minimum....deal?

last word
Before posting, I search our database for other posters named jazzreport. The only name that came up was the current posted. I'm aware of the old poster that went by the name, but they have since changed to a different screenname, thus making jazzreport available again. All posts by 'the artist formerly known as jazzreport' now appear under his new screenname.

On the other hand, Olbypocrisy is still in our system; His screenname has not changed. I know it's the Olby of old because of the 347 posts attached to his name, all of which positively drip with his characteristic Olby-ness. Go ahead: try to change your name to Olbypocrisy. It won't let you do it, because the original hasn't changed. Apparently he's just...gone into a month-long hibernation.

To the new jazzreport: thank you for changing your screenname as I requested, even if I would prefer you'd chosen something a little less...confrontational. Ever since the movie Network, TV News has been intimately tied to ratings. Just keep it on one thread. One. Thread.

To Jimbo99: It is what it is. If you take umbrage with TVNewser's coverage, post about it and we'll all have a great big positive conversation. I'm just gonna do what I do whenever I turn on the news: drink Brooklyn Lager and hope they bring back Anderson Cooper's magic floating pie chart from Iowa.

Jimbo-duly noted. What I meant is that I don't have any editorial control at TVNewser, and that the best way to make your concerns heard is to post in the Corner, because though They don't post, They do read this forum.

To anyone noticing that their posts are disappearing from this thread, I anticipate that future TV News Corner generations will look to this thread for how to behave, so I'm trying to keep it as brief and to the point as possible. I've been cleaning out most of the "yeah, but," "me too," and "omg olby 4 teh win!!1!!one!" type stuff. I'm being more strict about it than usual in this thread for clarity's sake, so it's nothing personal.
