It sounded a bit more like a propaganda "best of" previous SOTU speeches. The President might as well taped it from a cave and released it to Fox News. The President's two daughter's Jenna and Barbara were there (why aren't they in Iraq?). In the 53 minutes of the speech, there was a lot of bashing of the democratic controlled House (something I think we would of not seen if the House was controlled by republicans), the President talked out of both sides of his mouth by saying his "No Child Left Behind" act (which he has not funded) has made remarkable progress, but then proposed $300Million dollars for faith-based education because pubic schools are "failing" our children (all we need now is video of his wind surfing and we've got a commercial), and the President (not a military analyst, not a military general) declared to Congress and the American people that we are making great progress in Iraq and the surge is working! Well, I would like the President to go to Iraq and ask an Iraqi mother or father who just lost their son or daughter yesterday in the latest US blast, or the 5 American service men and women who just lost their lives in Iraq today (who the President made no mention of in his speech) if they think the surge is working. The President said that we will stop at nothing to bring our enemies to justice but failed to mention why he and his administration have failed to capture UBL more than six years after 9/11. The President talked about gulf relief but failed to mention or pay tribute to the 1,836 dead Americans due to his administration's federal emergency response failures. The President failed to mention the national debt which is growing at 1.43 Billion dollars per day, or how he intends to fix it. The President mentioned that the only possible way to stop terrorist attacks is to violate American's rights by wiretapping and other means but failed to address the fact that most Americans (and Judge Carnes agrees) think/agree it is a civil liberty violation. The President failed to mention how he intends to unite an already divided country something he promised to do in his 2000 and 2004 campaigns. Maybe hes given up, I know I have. Its amazing that you saw just how much of the Bush kool aid the media has been drinking over the past 7 years. The camera angles were specifically designed as to make it look like all of Congress was applauding at everything the President said. When in reality, more than half of the audience was respectfully sitting down. The camera angles mostly focused on the republican half of the room and tried desprately not to capture any of the democrat's reactions. If God willing we have a progressive president next year, I highly doubt the camera angles will just focus on the democratic side of the room. We will probably see republicans smirking, giving ugly glares, rolling their eyes, and being disrespectful to the things our new President has to say. Something the democrats rarely, if ever do. |
| frielpaco | Posted – 1/29/2008 6:56:17 AM | show profile Tonight, I watched both Fox "News" and MSNBC's coverage of the SOTU... and I was shocked at the stark differences. First of all, MSNBC actually told the truth... and actually had people from both sides of the political isle on to debate it. Fox just declared that Bush did A1 A+ job and talked about how much this was gonna boost his approval ratings. They got chummy with John McCain and Mitt Romney. Luntz's panel declared that Bush did a terrffic job... and the H&C "text message election" agreed. And in classic "fair and balanced" style they managed to work in those racist Clintons into their SOTU coverage as only Fox could do. At the same time, Luntz's focus group were offering the Clintons campaign trail strategies! Dick Morris was on selling movies. And the surge was declared a winner as many analysts and guests could just not get over the progress made. And the best thing about Fox's coverage was that it was complete with patriotic music, to the likes of what they used in this weekend's 'Tribute to President' special. |
| stvj57 | Posted – 2/4/2008 3:09:46 AM | show profile i missed it. just who on both sides of the political aisle did msnbc have on to debate things. and don't try to claim that ass joe scarbrough as on the gop side of the aisle. he has been ass kissing over on msnbc to save his pathetic job ever since being tagged to take over the slot after imus got clubbed. |
