I have Quark 5. I'm going to be receiving documents to make changes in that will come from Quark 6. Will it matter -- do I need to upgrade?

Yes. Unless there's something I've missed all these years, Quark 5 will likely claim the documents were created by a newer version and therefore can't be opened. While you're at it, go straight from 6 to 6.5. It contains a lot of fixes that make it much more stable.

Actually, just go right to 7. All versions upgrade for the same price.

good point. 7 has a lot of handy features that save you back and forth time between other programs for basic stuff like drop shadows, layering, etc.
