| jr_designer | Posted 1/29/2008 3:14:34 PM | show profile Just a little rant here.... I decide back in December to place an order with Overnightprints.com for business cards, for myself. I receive the cards in the mail and they're were horrible. The rounded corners looked like I cut them with a scissor at home, the text was about 6 pts bigger and most importantly, the green for both sides of the card was a disgusting yellow! I call right away to let them know that there is no way I can use these. The customer service rep. tells me to send them back for a reprint and they can correct it. If not, I will receive a refund. Needless to say, I get them back 2 weeks later and the same problems are there, the only change being that the front and back are a darker YELLOW instead of green. I call again and they tell me to send them back for a refund. In the meantime, I send the same files to another printer and received my cards in about 3 days, looking exactly like I wanted. In trying to make a long story short, I receive a call today saying they refuse to give me the refund they promised as they determined that they printed the cards to "the best of their ability" and since what I received is the best they can possibly print, I can't get my money back. They can send the cards back to me (which I'll never use) or give me a partial credit towards a future purchase (which again, I will never use. If their printer doesn't have the "ability" to print in the right colors, why bother ordering anything). Has anyone used this printer before? If so, did you have better luck than I have? I figured since this was such a small run it was better to use an online printer than a local one but after two months of back and forth, I just don't know anymore. |
| jr_designer | Posted 1/29/2008 3:17:16 PM | show profile Sorry, just realized there's a error above. "They're" should be "they". That's what I get for typing too fast! |
| Letterbox | Posted 1/29/2008 4:04:23 PM | show profile I've seen their die cut cards and the corners were passable. Not bad for the price. No reflection on your design skills, but what kind of files did you give them? Do you have a calibrated monitor? Also, you do know that everything they print is on a big gang run. So if you're looking for accurate color, forget it. The best they can do is move your job closer to another piece that has similar color. Despite, that I've had pretty good luck with them. |
| jr_designer | Posted 1/29/2008 4:27:21 PM | show profile Letterbox - I originally sent a PDF file. When I sent the first run back for re-prints, I sent both the PDF and EPS files hoping that would help (and yes, my monitor is calibrated). Accurate color was a high priority for me, especially with the shade of green I used, and I didn't realize that they print jobs on a gang run. That?s probably why they couldn?t do much more for me than try to print them a little darker. In the end, I paid almost double the cost with another printer but the final product is practically flawless and that makes it worth every dollar. Looks like I?ll have to count this one as a lesson learned. I?m glad you had better luck than I did! |
| Letterbox | Posted 1/29/2008 4:52:27 PM | show profile Yeah, Overnight and Vistaprint are kind of similar bargain basement type operations. They work well enough. I actually used Overnight a lot for promos. I forgot to mention. Certain shades of green are always a problem, especially with digital printers like Indigo or color lasers, because of the way they calibrate the printer. I believe they're required by law to drift the green a bit to make it tougher for counterfeiting. |
| maphop | Posted 5/28/2008 12:02:24 PM | show profile Just to Add To This Thread.... I tried Overnight Prints as a last-minute attempt to secure additional business cards for an important trip. The good news is that I got the actual cards on the date they promised. The bad news is that they were a) the wrong color and b) they were two-sided business cards and they printed the front of the card on both sides. It's now a month later and it's still not resolved. They basically are debating the myriad conversations I had with four different customer service reps there PRIOR to the printing of the cards, swear up and down they can't find a copy of the email I sent them in concern the scheduled day of printing (I could find it easily enough...) and offered to either reprint them or give me a discount on another job. I have more than $800 worth of printing sitting waiting to be done by a legitimate printer. Will that business go to Overnight Prints? Not on your life. Unless you have single-sided, black ink business cards with straight sides and no important deadline date, don't use them. The various furious threads on various boards and the complaints you will find just using Google, Yahoo or other services should have been my tip off. Some of the worst customer service I have encountered in years. |
| GirlWithGlasses | Posted 5/28/2008 12:24:17 PM | show profile Meh, I'd tell them that... We had this happen with a poster we had printed with a new vendor, and they later said that their crappy job was the best they can do, and since it wasn't good enough, we didn't pay and went elsewhere. Since they didn't notify you of their capabilities with your file to begin with, they owe you a refund. Unless they provide specs of what their digital (I assume) press is capable of, and you didn't follow the specs, they can't say that they printed them good enough- you didn't know ahead of time what their "good enough" looked like. I would also say that you need to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Best of luck. |
| ArtDir | Posted 6/6/2008 10:12:37 AM | show profile I have used Overnightprints.com for business cards a couple of times. The first time, no problems. Second time, terrible trim on the rounded corners. They reprinted them for me so I was happy enough. But found a MUCH better printer: GotPrint.com. Their quality standards are about the same, maybe a little better. But the prices are much cheaper. You can get 500 4/4 cards for $13 vs $40 at OvernightPrints. I have used them three times now and have been pleased with their work. The colors have came out as I expected for a 4-color card. |
| Letterbox | Posted 6/6/2008 1:47:20 PM | show profile Geez, that's ridiculously cheap. I might have to try them out. I like that they have an intermediate sized postcard. It's slightly cheaper and might stand out a bit for promos. |
