I really, really don't see how Bush thinks he can issues these signing statements and circumvent law. And the latest makes it really seem as if he does have intentions to establish a permanent military installation in Iraq. I really shudder to think of how he has run afoul of the Constitution and circumvented laws passed by COngress. I hope the next president, whoever he or she is, will repudiate this practice.

What I don't understand is how the legal and political community of all partisan persuasions have allowed this to happen. His signing statements alone should be impeachable, because Bush and the neo-conservative legal team behind it obviously are a threat to the constitution and republican government. If this was not so alarming, it would be amusing that GW's name is George and that the British king during the American Revolution of 1776 was named King George.

In 19th century American politics, politicians made all sorts of villifying claims against the opposition, something only Republicans still practice regularly. To call Bush and Cheney guilty of fascism is not stretch of rhetoric or the imagination.

exactly- I would think these signing statements are impeachable offenses. He's crapping all over the Constitution and single-handedly empowering the role of the executive branch. I wouldn't wany any president of any party doing this.

I just hate this guy and his cronies... going down as the worst president ever would be far too good for this guy.
