I'm pitching the deputy editor (NM) for a NYT Home piece. My first idea was just right for them, and I've written for other sections of the paper. Am I pitching too high up? Is there someone else who handles pitches? Does anyone have advice about getting into that section?

Why don't you politely ask the editor of one of the other sections you write for to suggest the right person in the home section?

I did. He doesn't know anyone in that section, but knew who the deputy editor was and gave me her email.

My state editor has had me pitch pretty darn high up in the past, so maybe that's just how they work?
