| Ilike2right | Posted 1/31/2008 9:36:03 PM | show profile What is the average time someone spends as an EA? I?ve heard moving up to asst. editor comes after a year to a year and a half. What is the maximum time? Anyone know of an EA in the same title (but making more money) for like three years? |
| Wordy McWord | Posted 2/8/2008 11:49:41 AM | show profile EA I think it really depends on the company. I would generally say 1-2 years as an EA is sufficient to gain the skills to move up to AE. However, I have a friend who works at a university press where people can be EAs for ten years because the next level is editor and the editors usually have PhDs. (Plus, people stay because the benefits are amazing.) Does your supervisor know you want to move on? Sometimes you need to be the one to take the initiative--you may want to ask your supervisor for a performance review and ask what you would need to do to gain a promotion in say, the next six months. |
