The damage is done. After asking for an inch off the length and some bangs, and showing 3 photos of what I'd like, I'm now left with a haircut that looks as if a someone attacked me with a weedwacker in their sleep.
Because I was just had "the interior shredded to add more to the cut" I won't be getting another haircut for about six months to a year but I'll need to go somewhere else.

Don't worry, it'll grow back. Just try to avoid weedwackers in the future. So what did you decide to do about your travel friend?

Monique at Paul LaBreque (I believe that's how it's spelled) on the west side (at the Reebok club)...or Devin at the East side location. Been going to either of them for 6 years now, and never ever ever had a bad haircut...

Thanks!
Yeah, it will grow back it's only hair. I'll save a lot by not going as much!
As for my travel friend, I politely declined. And discovered a few others did the same. You have a good memory, foto!

If you're willing...
If you're willing to take a little journey to Brooklyn, I've found the best hairstylist in NYC.

After my hair BROKE OFF thanks to a nightmare color job at Elizabeth Arden, I was left with chunks of missing hair, too brittle to repair, no possible escape plan. I went to 3 top stylists, thinking you get what you pay for. Pft. Nobody could help.

Until I met Sylvana. She works in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn at Lush Salon.

She made me look amazing through 2 years of growing out the mess. And now, I get hair compliments on a regular basis. It's ALL HER!!!

There. That's my story. Good luck, girlie!

I'm fanatical when it comes to hair, and I've tried dozens of top stylists. Hands down, the best has been John Kovacs at Chris Chase Salon (in Chelsea). An editor at Vogue recommended him and he is a godsend. He charges around $100 a cut, but SO worth it.

I've been to more expensive stylists (e.g. Frederick Fekkai) but really no one compares.

Sigh. I wish some of these snippers were around here.

Ditto on the bad dye job -- when the dark parts at the back of my cut weren't lightening up, they just kept dabbing on more bleach or whatever it was and left it longer and longer -- I came out with my hair fried and now four weeks later it's thinned out and strawlike. Very disappointed -- so much for my Steel Magnolias salon.

I saw a friend today who has let her hair go silver and with a gorgeous cut, it looks wonderful. I guess at 46, maybe I'm old enough to do the same. My husband finally has some snow in his beard, so maybe people won't think I'm his mum...
