I was recently laid off from my PR job working as an assistant to an executive and I've been frustrated with the lack of PR opportunities in L.A. Granted, I've been fortunate to have at least five interviews in the past two weeks, but haven't received any job offers yet. In total, I have almost two years of experience in PR plus a degree. Could anyone offer any help as to how long I should plan on being unemployed until I find that PR job I'm looking for? Is January and February just a slow time of year for new hires? Agghh

Unfortunately PR is a competitive field, as is any marketing career. I strongly believe that job availability and hiring is affected by the state of the economy.

Blossom, I just blogged about finding work. While my blog is primarily about writing and editing, might be something in there that's helpful -- feel free to check it out:

Since it's a numbers game, the more interviews you get, the better your odds are. With five interviews in two weeks, I'd say you're doing some things right to get to that point.

If you feel like you need to brush up on interviewing, I love Martin Yate's Knock Em Dead guide to getting a job (there's also a link on my blog.)

Good luck!

I think you should definitely still look but you seem to be on the right track. Five interviews in two weeks I believe is a very positive sign. It shows that various companies are interested in you due to your talent. Two weeks is too soon to be upset I think. I think you should keep looking and trying. Never surrender.
