| HisGirlFriday | Posted 2/6/2008 9:28:26 PM | show profile Hey! I love that video! I think it totally rocks ... yeah, sure it's not about his substance or policies or whatnot but it gave me goosebumps .... But then again, I'm a true Obama-Mama. |
| JCB | Posted 2/7/2008 12:51:40 AM | show profile The Grateful Dead were so moved by the Obama movement (and it IS a movement) that they came out of retirement and played a reunion concert in San Francisco to fundraise for him. The man inspires at a level I have never seen in my lifetime, and I find it breathtaking. I wish all the Obama-downers out there (and on this board, especially) would try to grasp that we Obama fans are NOT, I repeat, NOT, hypnotized brainwashed zombies full of fanciful delusions about some charlatan who couldn't possibly live up to the media hype surrounding him. Our eyes are OPEN about this. We know he's not god. He's not perfect. He's not the greatest thing ever to hit politics. We KNOW that. BUT: He is the most inspiring force we have ever witnessed in our lifetimes on the political landscape, and that MEANS something. It means a great deal. And many artistic, creative people out there are moved to express themselves and their sense of gratitude and hopefulness. So the Black Eyed Peas made a cute video. So what? Lots of bands make videos about things that are FAR less substantial or motivating, and no one's accusing them of elevating their subjects to the stature of Ghandi. Relax, dude. It's just a video. |
| UGoGirl | Posted 2/7/2008 11:19:32 PM | show profile I think it's amazing and fabulous, and if we hadn't been living 7+ years in hell there wouldn't have been people so inspired to put it together. People are desperate for a feeling of hope, of America not having its best days behind us, and Obama makes us feel that. It is probably nothing that anyone can possibly live up to, but I'm all for it! |
| Bleak Spouse | Posted 2/8/2008 10:35:38 AM | show profile "BUT: He is the most inspiring force we have ever witnessed in our lifetimes on the political landscape" Really? But he's still a man whose goal is to become the most powerful man in the world. Which makes him just another creepy, and makes people who constantly bang on about him even creepier for getting rabid over a politician. |
| foodlit | Posted 2/8/2008 2:19:08 PM | show profile This video just exemplifies my concern w/Obama, that his simple message is too simple. That he's nothing but a pretty soundbite, charismatic and charming with his rose-colored message of hope....and no solid plan on how to make things happen. If he is chosen as leader, where will he take us? I just don't have faith that he is ready yet, though I wouldn't mind seeing him as the VP under Hillary. |
| ManhattanMatt | Posted 2/8/2008 3:15:08 PM | show profile I think he'd make ... ...a good Congressional aide. |
| Friends of Ron Mexico | Posted 2/8/2008 4:14:25 PM | show profile Barack Hussein Obama , Jr. is a cult leader.Just don't drink the kool aid |
| arewrites | Posted 2/9/2008 1:53:49 AM | show profile >>And yet there was something just a wee bit creepy about the mass messianism ? "We are the ones we've been waiting for" ? of the Super Tuesday speech and the recent turn of the Obama campaign. "This time can be different because this campaign for the presidency of the United States of America is different. It's different not because of me. It's different because of you." That is not just maddeningly vague but also disingenuous: the campaign is entirely about Obama and his ability to inspire. Rather than focusing on any specific issue or cause ? other than an amorphous desire for change ? the message is becoming dangerously self-referential. The Obama campaign all too often is about how wonderful the Obama campaign is.<< http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1710721,00.html |
| newyorker | Posted 2/9/2008 2:45:43 AM | show profile "Many people, including some of his critics, have come to Obama's defense by claiming that his progressive half-stepping is an inevitable part of national politics. Others have argued that, despite his shortcomings, Obama is still the best choice among the remaining democratic field. While such claims may be true, they prove that Obama is merely the most attractive in a group of political siblings rather than the revolutionary outsider that he's portrayed to be. Unfortunately, Obama isn't selling himself as the best of the pack, but as an entirely new breed of candidate. " http://www.theroot.com/id/44630 |
