What is the best way to break into reporting? I just graduating with two degrees (neither were in journalism) and with alot of practical journalism experience and a fairly impressive internship. Where do I go from here? I have been planning on going to law school because I thought a JD would help pay the bills/give my interview skills/allow me to be a legal analyst. But before I go, I want to know if that is terribly not advisable. What do you all think? Please let me know.

Thanks so much!

Do you have a resume tape? That's the only thing that will even get you looked at for an onair job. Law school isn't going to help you for an entry level reporting job. Look at small, starter markets (market 135+) - but be prepared. Most entry level reporters make less than $20K. If you did an internship in tv news (you don't say where your practical experience and internship were), go back to that station - see if your contacts there know of any openings in entry level markets. Have your contacts there critique your tape.

Remember - your tape gets about ten seconds on the screen before the news director decides you're worth taking a closer look at - make sure you impress in those first ten seconds.
