Can anyone recommend a free downloadable compression utility for Macs?

Not sure if there's a free version, but StuffIt Expander is the leading utility for Macs.

Stuffit Expander only decompresses files...you need the other half of the program (which is not free) to actually compress the files.

There are a number of sites where you can download a trial version of StuffIt for free. Just Google "StuffIt" and you find it.

Damn. Already bought stuffit expander and still have no way to make these files smaller. Anyone know how to lower the file size of multi-page pdfs? I have no graphics program...suggestions appreciated.
