| mushkambaryan | Posted 2/9/2008 6:33:23 PM | show profile Hello, guys! I have my own part-time business on the side. But I am still trying to find a day job (for extra income and to get out of the house) Is it possible at all to break into TV writing in NY City? Does it pay enough to put food on the table? I know, it's a general question. But I would appreciate your thoughts, ideas or suggestions. |
| worldofnatasha | Posted 2/9/2008 10:56:53 PM | show profile it's not really possible to break into TV in New York (at least, not scripted TV) -- you pretty much have to be in Los Angeles. it pays a ton. but it takes so much time & energy that it's not exactly a day job -- 16 hour days, etc. , that it would be hard to have an additional part-time job or business. but mostly, people who make it as TV writers rabidly, desperately want to be TV writers -- unless you're whole-heartledly, single-mindedly determined to become a TV writer, there's no way you'll make it. |
| mushkambaryan | Posted 2/10/2008 9:48:47 PM | show profile Thank you for your insights, Natasha. PS: I think in this day and age you are not going to find an interesting and challenging job that starts at 9 and ends at 5. You have to work for your money! |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 2/11/2008 3:24:52 AM | show profile If you just want a day job, don't look at a glamor industry like television. That's the type of field where people need to hold day jobs for years trying to break into it. |
