If I had my own show on cable news, (not Fox because uh... not so much) I would surround my show around the idea that we cover the important stories that actually impact peoples lives to make them more educated voters. The trivial stories would be covered at the very end of the show, if at all, and only if I was really interested. We would not sensationalize, scandalize, or exaggerate the details of any story. We would cover the news fair and balanced (hey, truth has a liberal bias people). We would provide real passionate debate from people on both sides of the isle that can put up really well thought out arguments and put up a fight. There is no Jane Hall, Juan Williams, or Fox News liberals here. The heart and soul of our show would be our one-in-a-million staff consisting of six all star correspondents:

* Ashleigh Banfield - Foreign affairs correspondent
* Jami Floyd - Justice correspondent
* Dennis Kucinich - Peace correspondent
* Michael Moore - Investigative correspondent
* Stephanie Miller - Political correspondent
* Carmen Rasmusen - Entertainment correspondent

The show would be the #1 show on cable, finally putting Fox News in their place. We will remind the American people of the consequences of their decisions by putting up the total Iraqi/American casualty death numbers every night at the end of the show.

But the best part of my show, is at the end... all my correspondents get commentaries and can speak out about whatever they wish. I of course get the last word.

Maybe I'm living in a fantasy land... but I'm also interested in hearing how your show would be if you had one on cable news!

Not bad...
I think your overall concept is solid- but it would be a very niche market. You would never be "the #1 show on cable" or even make a dent in Fox News' ratings - as they allow both sides of an issue to be heard.

Your model is best illustrated by MSNBC, specifically, "Countdown". The deliberate plan of knocking everything on the right and never having any guests who disagree with the host has proven to be a disaster.

Also, your list of liberal "all-stars" will prove to be as divisive as it is appealing to the audience as a whole. Not quite sure what a "Peace" correspondent is or what he would do, but the idea certainly is novel.

For my own idea for a TVNews story on cable- I would try to blend the Hannity and Colmes format (right v. left), but extend the topics to include not only politics, but other areas as well (like you mentioned law and entertainment).

I would also make sure that the hosts had equal footing. Do you really think that Allan is as strong as pressence as Sean?

But, bottom line- I'd make sure to appeal to the broadest audience possible.

Atticus, thankyou for the kind comments. I have no interest in inviting on only guests who agree with me. We would have people on from both sides. Not people with weak arguments like the antics of Jane Hall but real people who can make strong arguments.

A "peace correspondent" would report on issues of war, peace, and casualty numbers. The idea of an entertainment correspondent on my show is not to report on Britney Spears or Heath Ledger but to organize political music events, talk to celebrities about their politcal opinions, talk about the Iraq war with celebrities, help create and spread the message about anti-war songs, promote anti-war advocacy investigation movies, promote progressive entertainment causes, etc.

Love your idea for a debate show BTW... we need more debate shows on the news. Real debate shows with strong people from both sides... not weak people that can't put up a debate like Alan Colmes.

My show would be in the mold of a Tavis Smiley, Charlie Rose, and Larry King. It would be an interview show that went outside of your normal cable news topics most nights. I would cover politics when neccessary, but not all the time. I would have on guest that cover events from all over. It wouldn't just be in the US, but overseas as well. My show would be to educate the public. It wouldn't be fluff, it would have real substance.

I however know my show would get no ratings whatsoever, so I would be cancelled after a month, or just get moved to the weekends.

"The show would be the #1 show on cable, finally putting..."
frielpaco and this show of yours that you wrote would be "The show would be the #1 show on cable, finally putting Fox News in their place." with Dennis Kucinich and Michael Moore it would be #1 in FANTASY LAND and fantasyland only...lol

More conservatives watch Cable TV news than liberals. I know a lot of liberals who do not watch TV at all. Those who do believe that ALL news is a corporate conspiracy for corporate profits. Liberals detest many companies so they would be writing to complain why the network would have commercials by companies like Nike, DeBeers, McDonalds, K-Mart, etc who exploit their workers and destroy communities and so on.

Michael Moore is extremely difficult to work with. He was hired as an editor for a liberal magazine and he was fired within a month. He would end up making a hatchet job video about your cable news show, that he left because of 'creative differences'.

I would have a commentor in the style of O'Reilly but with less tabloid.

I would also include a world news item from a different country with a location on the map with a small bio of the country to keep people informed and educated on other countries of the world and how it relates to the United States.

A segement of historical value.

satisfies the Lib police.

If you think that "Dream Line-up" would ever do any better than scratch in the Demo....you are definitely living in fantasy land.

<< truth has a liberal bias ?????? Please explain. >>

Well, it's kind of hackneyed bumper sticker phrase, but I do think that liberal -- being synonymous to "open minded" (this, in spite of the cliche bouncing among the peanut-gallery conservatives that liberals are close minded bigots, a weird and very ironic accusation, IMO) that one must have a liberal min to question one's wn beleifs in lights of the realities that imply truths that differ from one's own subjective perceptions.

Conservatives, on the other hand, only seek truths that adhere to their staid perceptions, because -- to them -- changing their mind or admitting that they're wrong is a sign of weakness and fallibility, which -- since they have so much at stakes in their views -- is unfathomable, even if the truth runs counter their beliefs.

I've changed my views several times this year alone on different things. I've never met a conservative that has ever ONCE admitted they were wrong. They are pathologically opposed to this function. So, the statement "truth has a liberal bias" is a joke that plays on the riff that in light of overwhelming evidence (such as the theory of evolution, just to name one example) a conservative is incapable of accepting important truths.
