Since a lot of us haven't been to j-school and don't have the kind of training to help us decide if something might quality as libel or defamation, how can we educate ourselves on this subject? Are there some good books and sites on this topic?

Thanks!

This is a good site: "The Media Law Resource Center ? formerly the Libel Defense Resource Center ? is a non-profit information clearinghouse originally organized by a number of media organizations to monitor developments and promote First Amendment rights in the libel, privacy and related legal fields."

Teeter & LeDuc's "Law of Mass Communications" is a magnificent resource for the entire history of MassComm law in America, with detailed summaries of every relevant court case. Not sure what edition they're in. The one I have is from 1992, but it's still something I look to when I have questions. It's about $100, though.
