I graduated last May from a great school, and after graduation i was interning at a urban fashion company under the director of marketing/pr. Now it wasn't a normal internship, i never once had to get someone food or Starbucks. I worked 40+ hours a week, wrote marketing proposals, developed media contacts and invited them down to the show room, did product placement on various tv shows, movies, and celebrities. I was never given a contact list, but developed all of my own personal contacts for the company. I also did some administrative work such as schedule meetings, car service pick-ups, and a lot more. My mentor was laid off, and the company basically closed its doors....

Now when i visit headhunters, or placement agencies i get strange responses. More traditional firms told me i did to much work while i was in college, and post-graduation and none of it counts if i wasn?t paid on the books. In college I started a grass-roots program for a well known major r&b label, started a promotion company, helped produced a big time award show for my schools athletic department, and a lot more entertainment related activities while I was a full time student. Now recruits are telling me it looks like i have accomplished nothing since graduation and will be competing with 2008 graduates for entry-level jobs. Other places have told me I?m too experienced for the entry-level position I?m interviewing for and it would be taking a few steps back experienced wise, and probably wont stick around.

What do i do?! Help!

You bust your $#* - that's what you do. You sound like a go-getter but you're still just a year out, so there's a lot more time to put in. Focus on what you really want to do and approach those places, even if it means taking another job while you're barely getting paid from the place you really want.
If you're this frustrated a year out, how will you handle it 10 years later if you get laid off? Suck it up and keep plugging away.
And hey, if you're in Atlanta on March 28th, you should think about coming to Making It in the City LIVE.

You definitely haven't done too much. Sounds like you have gotten some great experience! I also suspect you might have better results contacting companies directly (and I'm a headhunter!) Regular headhunters might see you as too experienced for their assistant jobs, but don't listen to them. Contact the companies you want to work for directly and ask for informational interviews. Cast a wide net and go for it. You'll find something soon.

Good luck!
