My god, I thought the endless, brainless partisan bickering would be the thing that made me finally give up all hope on this message board. But somehow you guys have managed to mix insane liberal-bashing with insane Natalee Holloway obsession! I think this is my cue to exit stage right.

There are a frightening number of people out there in Crazy Internet Land who are WAY TOO into the Natalee Holloway case ... they feel that they have some strange connection to her even though they never met, or they feel that finding her killer is a more important issue than the presidential elections. Most of them use Natalee Holloway to fill some void in their lives - a void caused by the soul-crushing loneliness of your average Internet forum enthusiast. This is CREEPY AS HELL.

At the risk of making a thread here about journalism - the only thing that makes the Natalee Holloway story newsworthy is that it shows that girls shouldn't go on vacation, get wasted, and act irresponsibly or else bad stuff might happen. THAT'S IT. The story has been dragged out and sensationalized because:

A) There was sex, drugs, and alcohol involved.
B) Her parents love them some camera time.
C) It's a mystery, and everybody loves a good mystery.
D) She is an ATTRACTIVE WHITE FEMALE. And if you don't think that has anything to do with it, you're kidding yourself.

(sigh) I almost yearn for the days of FrankLobo. He may have been a jerk, but at least he wasn't bat$#!t crazy like you Natalee Holloway wackos.

One for the road: For a perfect example of a Natalee Holloway psycho in his element, check out this blog, written by a guy who filled this forum with his nutjobbery a few weeks ago. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so damn creepy. www.hootieholloway.blogspot.com

God bless people like Latin1 and Ron Mexico for picking up his crazy ball and running it for a crazy touchdown. See you in hell, TVNewser message board! Wake me up when you start talking about something that's not stupid, obnoxious and/or nuts.

Suburban- according to your previous posts, you keep threatening (enticing?) us that you're leaving this board.

Stop with the threats (promises?) already and go.

Its just silly to come on here and say "I think this board sucks- I'm going to leave" or "see you in Hell, TVNewser" then come back again only to say the same thing.

YAWN!

And crimedog- I'm just saying that when you were banned (something that apparently happens quite frequently) there was less rancor on the threads.

If that offends you, then that is exactly my point.

What are you talking about. Atticus - who were you before the name change? Rancor? Read what you just said. You don't want to hear any opposing voices. You all were talking like a bunch of rabid squirrels about nothing. Liberlas - liberals liberals killed Natalie Holloway.
Atticus6907 Posted – 2/18/2008 12:02:09 AM | show profile
crimedog, like it or not, Natalee IS a big topic on tv news. Someone thought it would be a good topic for the TVNewser board.

Your posts only contain name-calling and sexual references.
No wonder you have been banned. Several times.

Atticus - you are Olby aren't you. Not a word of what you just said is true. You were just Ron Mexico - now you've morphed into someone else. One thing you can't mask are your phrases. They never vary. Do you think you can fool us with this crap? You've been saying the same things for a whole year. Exactly the same

SuburbanCorrespondent...see ya
well don't let the door hit you on the way out. But you proved the point about racist liberals with your comment that one of the major reasons Natalee Holloway case is getting any coverage is because she is an attractive WHITE girl.

You people on the left must be so deluded that you don't even understand the main reason for the original post, instead you just prove my point.

Many on the left see the Natalee Holloway case NOT as any important news, but that is only about what liberals have callously and ignorantly wrote about, that the Holloway case is only about "some privelage attractive WHITE girl who has gone missing". Even in your response you dismiss Natalee Holloway in some negative form because you can use it in the lefts agenda of continuing racial hatred and victimhood. Natalee Holloway is turned into an object, something to have disdain to, since she is only a "white girl gone missing".

So don't let the door hit you on the way out and the Holloway case IS news, even though leftest want to turn this news story into simple racial victimhood.

Natalee Holloway case has garnered international attention and also very high ratings for the News outlets. If you had a brain, which most liberals don't, the news media has to make money, yes liberals, the news outlets have to make a profit or they lose revenues. Because the Holloway case gets many news viewers it only makes COMMON sense to report on it, but then again most liberals don't have common sense.

It appears YOU leftests are the real sickos not to realize that in the real world, news media outlets depend on profits and making money.

"...liberals killed Natalie Holloway."

No one wrote that. Who wrote that? All I wrote was that the Holloway case is news and should not be dismissed by liberals in racial terms to create more hatred.

The case has real news value and garners "legs" all the time because of the actions of the main suspect, Joran Vander Sloot. The same could be said with Drew Peterson. His actions cause the News Media to re-focus on the story and causes real "media buzz". If a news outlet does not want to cover that, they do it at their own peril, with lack of viewership. Even CNN and MSNBC followed Drew Peterson and Joran Vander Sloot around because they drew attention to themselves.

>> Is a crime against a white person not the same as crime against a black one <<

Yes it is. So I ask you why the media give disproportional coverage to disappearances of member of the racial majority when they're female?

There is no doubt that the media covers these things disproportionally based on race. I'll throw your accusation right beck at ya and say to NOT discuss this trend IS ITSELF RACIST.

And, yeah, I agree completely with SC: there's a weird obsession going on as evidence by the OP's comments. I mean: who types prayers to the Christian god an behalf of a three-year-old missing person case into a forum about media and then ask everyone to join in?

That truly is nutty any way you look at it.

PS: Considering all of the OP's deep and profound concern for this missing young woman, so deep as to ask complete strangers on an online forum to join in prayer, I find it interesting s/he didn't even know how to spell the woman's name correctly. It's an honest mistake, but it does make you wonder just how much of this compassion is actually about the missing person as a human being and how much of it is something else that transcends the person who went missing. Holloway the "any Natalie", the symbol of all that is wrong with the big, mean world rather than the Holloway the human being from Mississippi (I think she was from Mississippi) who spells her name with two "ee"s. Perhaps that's a little too deep for some people on this forum to contemplate. Just call me a liberal elitist.

Once again - stop the navel gazing! The woman was murdered in Aruba and it's those with connections who are keeping this guy from being incarcerated. There is no liberal press anymore to come to the rescue. It's all owed by right wing corporate types. Who's Rupert Murdoch? Why don't you plead you case to the Wall Street Journal. I'm sure they'd be all over it!

I don't wanna get into wether or not Natalee is news. To me, it is news.

But what I do wanna talk about is the fact that hope is NOT lost because we can still get Joran if we prosecute him federally in the United States. I'm talking with some lawmakers who think my idea is a good one and I'll update you if anything comes of it.

How are you going to do that? Invade Aruba?
larryharrietanalysis Posted – 2/18/2008 1:41:09 PM | show profile
No, all it would take is a simple law that allows the US to federally prosecute suspects of crimes agianst US citizens in foreign countries. Critics have told me that we shouldn't have the tax payers pay for that. But I disagree. Think about how much money we spend on keeping America safe. The war on terror, police, courtroom trials, public services etc. This is just an extention of the primary purpose of all lawmakers which is to protect Americans. This isn't just about the Natalee Holloway case but it could help ALL victims of crimes of foreign countries. I think its a really good idea and it would take bi-partisan support and the American people would have to get behind it. But I think it would be for the best to not only provide justice for Natalee but justice for victims all around the world. About the cost, its really a drop in the bucket compared to what we spend in other things.

How are you going to do that? Every country has it's own laws and good reason to keep the US at arms length.

No one accepts the situation in Aruba as suitable. The real mafia exists there. Even the casinos are run by old style mafioso types not native Americans.

>> No, all it would take is a simple law that allows the US to federally prosecute suspects of crimes agianst US citizens in foreign countries. <<

You don't need that. As I understand it you don't need Aruba's permission to request a Dutch suspect be extradited to be tried for murdering a US citizen, even if the crime took place in another country.

The problem is US-Dutch relations. A lot of countries that don't have the death penalty will not extradite suspects if there's any chance of the death penalty.

I'm only vaguely following the story, but as I understand it Joran claims he hid a body. He did not confess to committing murder. I honestly don't care too much about this story, but from a perspective of criminal law it's conceivable that the girl could have died from alcohol poisoning or whatever and this guy disposed of the body. Or he could have raped her and killed her and disposed of the body. Or monkeys could flown out of his butt, attacked the woman and flown into outer space with her body.

My point is, nobody on this forum knows for certain what happened.

Some reports, notably a feature article in Vanity Fair, centered on the behavior of the high school group during their vacation in Aruba.[36] According to Commissioner Dompig, as quoted in that article, the 2006 seniors were not welcome at the Holiday Inn due to the behavior of the previous year's graduates.[36]

Holloway's behavior, in particular, was discussed. According to some reports, Holloway lay down on the bar and let Van der Sloot lick a body shot off her midriff.[66][67] One of Holloway's roommates told the FBI that she and Holloway had been doing jello shots before Van der Sloot's arrival as well.[68]

Holloway's friends stated she had been drinking all day long the day before her disappearance, and Dompig indicated that the police have evidence which corroborates this.[36][12] Dompig indicated that there is evidence that points to possession (though not necessarily use) of drugs by Holloway.[12][69] Members of Holloway's family have denied drug use by Holloway,[70] and classmates of Holloway have stated that they never saw her use alcohol to excess in Mountain Brook.[71][72]
