I do not have a journalism degree, nor did I do much copyediting at my last job, so I was thinking of doing an online copyediting cert program-- for both my own education and resume prowess. I looked up the local UC San Diego extension program-- almost $1500 for a certificate! This seems a bit steep and a bit long (4 courses). Are there any other programs out there that are more affordable? Would a certificate even mean anything on a resume?? Thanks for your advice! |

If you were specifically focusing or medical or legal editing, there might be some use. But if not, I'd strongly recommend you try to get someone to take a chance on you in a freelance capacity. Get a couple of assignments under your belt and you can use that on your resume to get better assignments. Good luck. |
