| advicesisterA | Posted 2/29/2008 3:26:20 PM | show profile | email poster I have gotten just one more letter from a reader telling me my blog is "broken." The blog is at http://www.advicesisters.net/advicesistersblog It has been in constant use for three years. Early on, I decided to FTP it to my own web site. I do not remember I do not remember the exact name I originally used to create he blogger url but I could make a good guess. In any case, it appears that abouit 75% of my readers use MSE 6 or above, so they can see the blog perfectly well. But those who use MACS or browsers like Netscape and Firefox (not to mention Blackberry) can only see jibberish or code. I think the code is the actual blog template code. Has anyone had a similar experience? I think it has something to do with errors in the way i set up the FTP, but I'm a writer, not a computer wizard. I don't want to upset anyone, but I just can't fix it! I have tried to get my service provider Godaddy to asssist me but they won't because I'm not using their blog softwar. I tried to get someone, anyone at Blogger to help me figure this out. But no one seems to know (or care). So I'm trying here on Mediabistro. If you have any ideas for me, would you kindly email me? am fed up with both the problem, and explaining it. What I'd like is help. Anyone????? |
| Letterbox | Posted 3/1/2008 5:28:59 AM | show profile It seems to open as a text file in Firefox. I'm no web guru but have you tried putting a tag on your index file? So it should appear as index.html as opposed to just index |
| spring2007 | Posted 3/1/2008 7:48:22 PM | show profile Just opened it on my Mac and looked at the code that popped up. The code looks fine to me-does the original blog (before you moved it to your server) display correctly on Safari/Firefox? |
| advicesisterA | Posted 3/3/2008 8:14:38 PM | show profile | email poster I tried changing the URL to http://www.advicesisters/net/advicesistersblog/html does it seem to make any difference? i can't tell from my computer. I would appreciate the feedback and I really appreciate the sugestion. I do not remember whether or not anyone could see the blog properly before I ftp'd it because it was so long ago. Would someone who doesn't use netscape let me know if they can see the blog now? |
| advicesisterA | Posted 3/3/2008 9:24:58 PM | show profile | email poster ...I meant someone who doesn't use MICROSOFT EXPLORER....sorry about that! |
| nellie bly | Posted 3/3/2008 9:59:01 PM | show profile I'm using firefox and it looks fine to me with the latest link (with the .net, not /net) |
| jr_designer | Posted 3/4/2008 11:19:41 AM | show profile I just tried both Firefox and Safari (on a Mac) and the new link didn't work for me. It doesn't show the code anymore though, just a "The page cannot be found" error. |
| spring2007 | Posted 3/4/2008 3:06:54 PM | show profile It works in my Mac Firefox/Safari The URL you posted is off, though. jr_designer, I think she meant http://www.advicesisters.net/advicesistersblog.html |
| jr_designer | Posted 3/4/2008 4:42:33 PM | show profile The site now works for me too in both Firefox and Safari (with the correction Spring made). |
| advicesisterA | Posted 3/4/2008 7:36:06 PM | show profile | email poster You are all so fantastic for helping me with this. The original url was http://www.advicesisters.net/advicesistersblog Now it is http://www.advicesisters.net/advicesistersblog.html I am hoping the (.html) on the end solves the problem with the browsers... ...does it? (and thanks again for your input and hel0) ;-) |
