Too funny. I was an editor there from 00-03.

Then you definately know some people that I do. One, wait, two editors graduated from my J. school a year before I graduated. Two really cool guys.

I may have met you, b/c I came and worked at the office once when an editor asked me to do some stuff.

Was it Rod or Amanda?

Sorry, Decorama.

I know it's not easy finding the right job. It took me the better part of a year to find something very good for me. (Meaning no one seemed abusive, manic-depressive or sexually harrassing.) And my intuition turned out to be right about the fit. (Yay!)

Our industry is not doing too well right now. I don't know why Google refuses to admit or understand they are a media company. They need to hire reporters! They have all that Google money, it's relatively easy to spend a few million here and there, don't you think?

Rod!

And Amanda very kindly edited one or two of the articles I did for LOC, I think. It's been so long. Well, 7 or 8 years. Everyone was so cool over there. Dane was the editor I worked with the most and was really wonderful and patient with the fledgling that I was. Last time I spoke to her, she was leaving the mag to have a baby.

wino no, johnny yes
i'm coming down on johnny's side here. It's hard to examine the logic (or lack of) behind Shelby's post (she majored in journalism ergo she posts on a journo board looking for advice on a paralegal school?) and draw any other conclusion except that she is, in fact, an idiot. The follow-up "no time for assholes" post can only erase any lingering doubt.

I don't care whether you think I'm wrong or right Stanley. Calling someone a "Fucking Idiot" is nasty, rude and offensive on so many levels. I know there are a lot of hard asses in journalism (I've dealt w/ my fair share, and dished it out occasionally) but why can't we be a little more decent to each other? We get it enough in the newsrooms and offices we work in. Can't we treat each other with a little more respect, even if a question is pointed in the wrong direction.

And, if you've ever read any of Jonny's posts, you'd see that is his M.O. is to be nasty and hate-filled. I was sick of seeing him call people whores, fucking idiots, and worse. He's a troll, and I'm tired of these jerks coming onto this board just to be insulting and stupid.

wineaux, I was Dane's assistant. We've probably spoken before. BTW, she had a baby girl.

Ah, I think you and I went to lunch once, w/ Jay?

I could totally see her with a girl. She was so cool, I really liked her very much. Do you know if she's still in the business?
She was a fantastic editor.

END THIS FORUM PLEASE!
Can someone please kill this forum! This isn't for personal conversations people, it's intended to answer the original message posted (however odd it may seem). And people are wasting postings here that can be used for beginers in the journalism field that need advice from seasoned professionals!

Done!

woops...sorry chick. I should have brought the conversation off the board long ago. It was rude.
I'll go away and let the thread take it's natural course.

I'm no expert on the history of Johnny's posts. But an examination of this thread would reveal that Shelby broke decorum first by calling the previous poster an "asshole." Why so sympathetic to her and not to the others? I hope it has nothing to do with gender.
Stanley_Milgram Posted – 3/9/2008 2:29:00 PM | show profile
then again, Shelby might actually be a male, as well, in which case, I guess I'll have to go to gender sensitivity camp...again!

I think Shelby's subject head and retort was pretty off putting as well. It's one thing to be disillusioned. But he/she is trying to appeal to a board full of career journalists with immature remarks and anger. It doesn't seem worth a reply.
