I once nabbed a feature assignment with Gourmet after sending them something I did for the local paper on the same topic. Sadly, the story was killed in the end. (I got a hefty kill fee, and it will now be appearing in a competing food magazine!)

Snuffle, I'm curious: did you pitch them the feature cold, did you know someone there or did you do FOB assignments for them first?

I pitched them cold and was told it was a rare coup for an unknown writer. But again they killed it in the end.
