| Sam Waynewright | Posted 3/7/2008 9:45:24 AM | show profile | email poster There are almost no more creative jobs listed on the jobs board? Hardly any writers, editors, reporters, graphic designers or photographers. It appears that 90 percent of the posts listed are for ad sales people, marketing director, "brand awareness" managers, financial directors, associate publishers and so on. A bit sad really. This use to be a unique jobsite for creative types. Now its just another standardcorp job site. I predict creative people will gradually drift away to other websites more useful to them. |
| Cyrus | Posted 3/7/2008 11:17:24 AM | show profile I'm not sure this has anything to do with MB. Most of the jobs I see anywhere else that involve writing or editing are for start-ups that offer very little in the way of money. Occasionally, you do see corporate editing/writing jobs on places like Craigslist, but they're not a dime a dozen or anything. Given that corporations are doing much more hiring than media companies -- and even they're not doing much -- I think they're going to put their ads in places where they'll be seen by the widest swath of people. Many times, those companies are frequent advertisers and have negotiated rates that are below the standard column-inch price, so they're still getting a relatively good deal. The jobs that are on MB right now appear to either be for small companies or start-ups or education/non-profit, etc. Those types of companies benefit from the lower rates MB charges. Already, the quality of the community-oriented aspects of the board has dwindled, although I think that has more to do with the increasing popularity of sites liked LinkedIn, etc. After all, there are only so many hours in the day. ------ Cyrus Afzali Astoria Communications www.astoriacomm.com |
