Most are for editorial assistant positions at publishing houses, and one is for an assistant at a online photography boutique. Is a suit necessary, or will nice pants, shirt, and tie suffice? |

Publishing is a little more casual than other industries. (but then again, I once encountered a woman who came in to interview for an assistant position wearing: a low-cut leopard-print dress, knee-high, 4-inch boots, bare legs--it was January--black nailpolish, an inch of makeup, and her hair pulled into a messy ponytail with one of those oversized butterfly clips. So you can do a whole lot worse than the nice pants, shirt and tie). |

However, as someone who has interviewed a lot of people over the years, I recommend that people dress up for interviews -- it instantly shows that you are a professional and that you are taking this interview seriously. |

I would do some homework on the relative age/affiliations of the people who work there. |
