Just wondered if anyone attempted this, and what their experience was. (It was a first-of-its-kind contest that required you to caption four pages of shoes for a chance to win a $1,000 Barneys gift card. No word reps or blah descriptions were allowed.)

I had some writer gal pals who considered but blanched at the level of difficulty. Did anyone brave it?

ha! i have been meaning to post about the contest and forgot till you jogged my memory. i read the rules, saw the "payment" and thought "are they really flippin' serious?"

given what the contest required, it was slave labor for a paltry sum. shame on them.

not for the pros
i don't think the contest was created for professional writers.

i haven't read the rules, but it seems pretty obvious that it's for aspiring writers who want to try their hand at caption writing. i think it's a great opportunity to put that on your resume and the gift certificate is just a nice bonus.

i honestly wish more mags offered contests like this for the newbies. it's like interning with a real assignment and a prize. crazy concept, but i like it.
