| frontmatter | Posted 3/7/2008 8:04:02 PM | show profile | email poster I have upcoming interviews for editorial assistant positions with the publisher of an HC imprint and the executive editor of an S&S imprint next week. I have experience in publishing and editorial environments, but I've never interviewed for an EA position before. Anyone with advice on what I should expect and how I should prepare for these interviews at these publishers? Or any insider knowledge on how either or both of these particular houses operate would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Although I haven't had experience with them personally, she told me a lot about the interview. Not surprisingly, HC focused most of their time talking about books, what her favorite book was, why she likes that book the best, what does she think of the symbolism in certain novels, etc... be prepared to talk in detail about certain authors and what you like about their style of writing, etc. From my knowledge the interview was less about the skills it takes to be an EA and more about the content that has already been published by their company and what she thought about it. Beyond that it was your normal questions such as why do you feel you deserve this position, what can you bring to HC, and so on. That's about all I know. Of course, if i you get a different interviewer everything could be different but I know any little bit of information can help. I could give you her email and you could talk to her more if you're interested. Good Luck! |
