| Seafarer | Posted 3/26/2008 4:30:33 PM | show profile | email poster Tips for bloggers 1) I like Wordpress. Can't speak for Blogspot 2) You "link up" by linking OUT from your blog. That's how other bloggers often find you - when they see a link from you and click back through it to investigate your blog. Also, participate in the online conversation, in forums and the comment sections of blogs, YouTube, Flickr, etc. To find other bloggers of your genre, just Google key words like "travel photography" or "travel photography blog" and see what comes back in the first 1-3 pages, then go visit. Look through your topic area at StumbleUpon and del.icio.us. Get onto Twitter. To find blogs and influential online people in general, I recommend Guy Kawasaki's new aggregator Alltop, at http://alltop.com - they are going to add a travel channel soon. 3) Driving traffic - the eternal question. Foodlit is right; start with Darren Rowse and ProBlogger. If people would read his stuff, they'd have just about all the answers. To drive traffic, you basically write good, useful stuff in your topic area, posting 2-3 times a week, for at least six months before you really see traction. I just wrote an article about building a blog that draws a crowd. Also recommend a great post from social media expert Chris Brogan that he just posted: "Social Media Starter Moves For Freelancers." Sign up for Brogan's RSS feed and watch how he communicates - he's great. ------ ** Family Travel blog at http://blogs.bootsnall.com/Seafarer ** Drag racing and NASCAR on http://www.fastmachines.com |

| JeanMarie | Posted 4/12/2008 5:42:10 PM | show profile I have a silly question. I understand the gratification of publishing a good blog and the ego boost of lots of traffic, but how does that translate to $$. |
| dribbledrive1 | Posted 4/12/2008 6:51:43 PM | show profile Few blocks make even a small sum. But you can: 1. You place ads on your blog and get a small amount ever someone clicks on them. 2. You use your blog as a way to tout a product or service, and thus use it to attract business. 3. Your blog becomes so successful that you become a recognized expert, getting speaking gigs or book deals. --I have a silly question.
