I'm considering trying out to be an about.com guide because my freelance work is slow lately. Looks like it's a time consuming in depth training program and a lot of work for not much money ... Can't decide if it's worth it. Any advice from those who tried or who are guides would be appreciated. thanks.

There was thread about this awhile ago, so search should turn it up. I think there were some who felt it was worthwhile and other who thought is was too much work for too little rewards.

Yes, there is a very in-depth thread on this from last year. I tried out in November and it's extremely time consuming and I didn't make it. I am considering trying again, however. The consensus is once you get the hang of it, it can be well paying. $725 a month isn't bad if you can produce 2 full-length articles a month quickly.

My SIL did it for 9 years and just quit b/c she felt they started to ask too much of her (she also has a full-time job) and was ready for something new. However, she did enjoy the stint and certainly built up her reputation as an expert in her field.
