Any background on this company (www.coffeycomm.com)? They're a health-publishing firm in the Pacific Northwest, and they seem to post job ads every couple of months or so. That seems to indicate a lot of turnover?is the company the problem, or is it the location (Walla Walla, Washington)? Just curious ...

I interviewed there last year. They were nice enough people and the HR woman was especially nice. They put me up in a very nice downtown hotel and had a car rented for me so I could explore the area. they were very gracious! I had a 1 hour interview but booked me a room for 2- 3 nights!

I did get a weird vibe though when I interviewed. It was a panel of people lead by the owner of the company. Everyone really deferred to him for everything in the interview, as if they were afraid to say anything unless they got his permission first. I got the impression that it was fairly autocratically run. But, in the end I didn't get offered the job I applied for but was offered a lesser position. I declined. It was also sort of bizarre because they said I didn't have enough experience when I had 28 years of applicable experience in the area that the job required.

All said, I'm glad I didn't get it/take it since I wasn't thrilled with the Walla Walla area. It's in the middle of nowhere and is a 4-5 hour drive to Portland or Seattle.

Nah, I just see their ads up all the time here, at JournalismJobs.com, CopyEditor.com, etc.

I work at Coffey
I've worked at Coffey for almost five years now, and I love it. There's not a lot of turnover, actually. The company is just growing faster than we can find people to hire. It is hard to get a job here, but it's worth the effort. Expect extensive interviews, especially for management positions.

This is the best place I've ever worked. The owners are extremely generous and have personal and professional integrity, and because they are selective about who gets hired, I get to work with extremely talented people every day.

Our clients are very picky, that's why HR has to be really selective. I think HR is also very cognizant of the company culture and whether or not a person fits into it. We relocate a lot of people and they don't want you to move all the way out here and find out that you can't stand it.

Walla Walla is a small town about five hours from Seattle and three from Spokane. It's a lot like Napa California--but less expensive. I grew up in Seattle and I love it here. It's not the city but we do have good restaurants, three colleges, several small theaters and an orchestra. If you are from downtown someplace it will feel like the middle of nowhere, but it's really not. I've been to the middle of nowhere, trust me this is not it. The Tri-Cities are only about 45 minutes away where you will find shopping and more restaurants and all that stuff.
