I am new to freelancing. I have an offer from a client in IT that will involve the following: business-to-business blog writing, white papers (which will involve technical writing) and Web content. I have three years professional experience in market research and IT business analysis/writing. I also have a Masters in English.

They have a national (and I believe international customer base.) It seems to me like it would be easier to have one rate than have a rate that varied from project to project. Their corporate office is based out of the Boston area. Can anyone suggest a reasonable amount to charge by the hour or by the word given these circumstances?

If you want to work hourly, people normally charge $75 to $150 an hour.

Word rates could range from $1 to $2.50.

I tend to favor a project rate myself.
