Topic: proofreading hourly rates ???

Hmm. I see a listing from an educational testing company in NY offering $15 an hour for proofreading. I think this is very low.

At the same time, I received a listing from an agency trying to fill what I'm 99 percent certain is the same job ... for $25 an hour. Which, when you throw in the agency premium, means they're going to pay ~ $37.50 to fill this.

How can this be? How is it that a company tries to fill the same job at a below-market rate and a way-above-market cost at the same time?

Why not cut out the middleman, pay $25 direct and make everyone happy?
