| damngoodidea | Posted 4/5/2008 1:58:51 PM | show profile Hello all, I am looking for some advice. I run a shopping- and fashion-related website, and I just don't have time to hunt down advertising dollars. The person I purchased the website from suggested I hire ad Ad Sales type person. I don't know where to begin to even find someone and how to even present this "job". I took a look at the jobs section on this site to see if there are similar positions. I basically only found well-known or large employers, not one-man show ones like me. I think I could only do commission-only anyway. Can anyone offer some advice? Please? Thanks so much. I really do appreciate it :) |
| Brena | Posted 4/6/2008 1:11:19 PM | show profile I'm not sure what your set up is like, but I'll be launching a content Web site soon (100-500 pgs). Profits will be made via affiliates based on my target market and Web sites like the ones below. I also have affiliates that I manually searched for. http://www.cj.com/ http://www.linkshare.com/ http://www.widgetbucks.com https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/ http://www.associateprograms.com/directory/ I have not signed up for nor used these sites yet, but I plan to based on the research I've done. My site is still in the planning phase. |
| foodlit | Posted 4/6/2008 2:43:09 PM | show profile Rather than hire someone, why not just have an ad network do it? They will look at your traffic and then price the ads accordingly, taking a cut for doing it. If you google around, you'll find tons of info on this. |
| damngoodidea | Posted 4/6/2008 11:22:31 PM | show profile Hi Foodlit, Never heard of it! I will google it as you suggested. Thanks! |
| damngoodidea | Posted 4/6/2008 11:22:59 PM | show profile Thanks Brena for the links. I will look into them. |
| pzach | Posted 4/7/2008 3:40:13 AM | show profile I just use LinkShare for advertising revenue on my site. No need for any dedicated staff! If you want to see how it works, check out www.returnticketmusic.com Paul ------ ------ Great new music every day! www.returnticketmusic.com |
| damngoodidea | Posted 4/7/2008 10:53:51 PM | show profile pzach, may I ask what you can expect to earn in advertising monthly? Not necessarily YOU, but I mean anyone who uses it? Thanks ;) |
| Brena | Posted 4/7/2008 11:43:31 PM | show profile My husband has a photo blog and he makes $200 per month from Google Adsense only, in which he gets paid per click. Advertising is secondary to him, but he's about to launch another Web site where ad revenue is his priority. I've also known people who are serious about it and they earn $5000 a month. They have lots of pages and lots of banner ads. With my site, I plan to have at least two to three banners on every page. Plus, Google Adsense (textlinks) in the middle of articles and at the end. It's hard to say how much ad revenue a site will generate. From my research, it is a combination of things. |
| foodlit | Posted 4/8/2008 8:26:15 AM | show profile YOur revenue depends on what kind of traffic you are able to generate and the target market of that traffic. Here are two that started as personal blogs but are now outrageously profitable. www.dooce.com took off when the woman who started the blog got fired for blogging about people she worked with...it's wickedly funny, and has done so well that her husband quit his job and the blog supports them all. Another that started as a personal blog but has exploded into a profitable business is pioneerwoman She just redid her site and it's gorgeous and has several sections, all of which she can earn ad money from. She is into photography and sells her prints and blogs about that, she has a cooking section that wins awards it's so well done, simple comfort food recipes, but tons of step by step pictures and funny comments, and as section on homes, as they are remodeling a ranch. Lastly, the most popular section is 'confessions' the area that she started out with where she talks about life as a city girl who married a cowboy and now lives on a ranch in the middle of no where with their four adorable 'punks'. A recent post generated over 7,000 comments. |
| foodlit | Posted 4/8/2008 8:28:28 AM | show profile Sorry, the link for pioneer woman is www.thepioneerwoman.com I tried to insert the link and media bistro hijacked it to direct it to their job listings. Pathetic. |
| HeatherSchwartz | Posted 4/8/2008 2:55:09 PM | show profile This is very interesting. Pzach, I looked at your site and don't quite understand LinkShare.com. I don't see any links or ads - how does it work? Nice site, by the way. :) |
