We are using Suitcase and are mostly working in InDesign CS2. this is problematic because it often displays type in a document that is "pinked out" indicating the font isn't activated or not there when they are! It's intermittant abut drives us all nts. Anybody using a different font management program?

On my home computer I don't even use one. I just put all my fonts in my Library>fonts folder. I know this isn't perfect but it works a lot better than Suitcase with InDesign!

any suggestions?

We use Font Reserve at work, and it seems to work fine with CS2 and CS3

I love Typograf. Like all good software, it's cheap, small and easy to use: http://www.neuber.com/typograph/

PS: You didn't mention which platform you use: I forgot to mention Typograf is only for Windows.

We use Font Reserve at work and we haven't had any problems with it. I've always liked the layout of the Suitcase program better but if it's giving you problems, you may want to look into switching over to Font Reserve.

Font program with InDesign
I use Linotype?s FontExplorerX.
It's free, works better than Suitcase, never crashes and is SO easy to use. I have over 13,000 fonts and it never once crashed.

I used Suitcase for years (pre-OS X) and when I moved to OS X started having issues with it. FontBook was terrible back then and may have improved now, but I started putting fonts directly into the User>Library>Fonts folder and created a new folder named "_MyFonts" so it comes up at the top of the list. This way I can keep track of what I am using just in case something goes wrong. I also create sub-folders labeled with client or project names to keep things organized.

Never had problems, extra software seems unnecessary.

Font program with InDesign
Here's another vote for Font Explorer, it's been working for me for over a year now. It was recommended by one of our tech guys at work.

Even though I was satisfied with dumping fonts into my system, I decided to try Linotype's FontExplorer per everyone's recommendations here. Its a solid app that can actually handle all your fonts. Finally, someone got it right!

Thanks for tip!

Considering how much of a lock Adobe has on graphics now and developing postscript, they should really bring back Type Manager. In that bygone era, ATM worked great. I use Suitcase now. It's passable.
