| Write Stuff | Posted 4/10/2008 6:36:45 PM | show profile | email poster Hi. I have some ideas I'd love to pitch to the NY Times Style section (I know, it's a big stretch). I am having trouble finding an email address for a person to pitch to in that dept. Any advice? Thanks. |
| CTWRITERLW | Posted 4/10/2008 11:54:44 PM | show profile | email poster NY Times Style Section The more direct you are the better. Peruse that section and figure out who the ed. is from the bylines/masthead. Write a great pitch. Deliver in person to the guard downstairs at the Times along with your clips! Good luck |
| etc | Posted 4/14/2008 2:30:06 PM | show profile send an email to staff@nytimes.com and you'll find out what you need to know. |
| Village Gal | Posted 4/15/2008 10:46:53 AM | show profile This has been disssused on the board in the past. do a search. since there is no masthead in that section, I doubt you will be able to figure this out from studying the paper. |
| Metro Writer | Posted 4/15/2008 9:37:22 PM | show profile The Connecticut Press Club (www.ctpressclub.com) had four editors from The New York Times who are actively looking for freelancers. Last fall, the Styles section wasn't looking for new talent, but the regional section (CT, Westchester, LI, NJ) is. That can be your back door entry. As for e-mail format, usually it's lastname@nytimes.com. Do check out www.ctpressclub.com in a few months. They get other editors who are seeking writers. The programs usually attract 35-50 people, so you get a chance to network with the people who make decisions. |
| arewrites | Posted 4/16/2008 2:07:25 AM | show profile Yes, good idea. Give your pitch and your clips to the guard at the NYT.Then stand in front of the building wearing a sandwich board that says "clueless freelancer for hire" in case you hadn't already been obvious enough. |
| bothsidesnow | Posted 4/17/2008 9:57:04 PM | show profile Also.. Make sure you don't thank the people on this board who took the time to help you out. Good luck with the Times! |
| Write Stuff | Posted 4/20/2008 10:23:51 AM | show profile | email poster thanks for suggestions! Here's how to email NYTimes editors Thanks for your suggestions. I've emailed NYTimes editors in the past, now knowing if that's how they want to be contacted or even if they ever got my email. Now I discovered: on nytimes.com, click on an editor's name in the editor's directory. A page with a listing of the editor's bylines pops up. At the top of the page is a link: "send an email to" I used it to email the head of all the style pages to ask him what is the best way to submit style proposals; he emailed me back, requesting that I snail mail proposals and tearsheets of published work to him c/o NYTimes editorial offices. At least there's a chance he'll look at my stuff since I'm sending it upon his request (I hope). |
