Is there any value in having an agent pitch a column on your behalf or is it standard fare to follow protocol and submit yourself? Been going back and forth on this and am getting mixed answers from a few different sources (both agents and editors).

I assume you are talking about a magazine column or syndicated column. Generally, you can do it just as well yourself as an agent can. Few agents have connections in these worlds. That said, if you have a connection to an agent who is really connected to these worlds and have no connections yourself, I would consider. However, if you are starting from scratch, I wouldn't search for an agent to represent a column because you're unlikely to find one.

Thx, Dribbledrive. I wasn't sure b/c when I worked for an agent we would always send out column queries on behalf of her clients. Seemed to make sense. Now I'm represented by someone else and she said she typically doesn't do it.
