Hi,

In addition to writing for magazines and the Web, I do some corporate writing. However, I only have so many hours in a day to seek out these sorts of gigs. I have posted in MB's Freelance Marketplace before with some luck and have bid on projects on sites like Guru with luck, too, but I'm wondering if it'd be more fruitful (time-wise, at least) to use Google AdWords to direct people looking for freelancers to my site.

I was wondering if anyone's had any experience with AdWords. My feeling is it might be more expensive than it's worth--you can pay as little as you want, I guess, but when I went through the sign-up process, it kept telling me I needed to pay at least $50/month to see any results. I guess I'm wondering if that's just their attempt to make more money off of me, or if it really would be fruitful to spend $600/year on Google AdWords.

You can pay as little as you want. Those are just guidelines. And you're not locked into any contract.

I believe the minimum to start up is $20. Honestly, for that price what have you got to lose?

That's a good point about no contract. Anyone else used Google AdWords?

I've used AdWords for other businesses not my own contract writing and editing. I keep meaning to try it.

After about $20 bucks of spending, it will be clear if there's any point to it.

Remember, with pay per click, you only pay when someone clicks on your ad. You'll know almost right away if clicks lead to business and leads.

Really, this is why Gooogle is the success it is. These ads work because if they didn't you'd stop very early on.

Just do it -- and no I don't work for Google.

Haha, thanks--you've got me sold. I'll let you know if it works.

I got so inspired by my own word of mouth that I decided to advertise myself on AdWords too. I'll let you know how it goes too.
