There aren't any detriments in joining, and some of the members hire freelancers or can lead you to freelance work -- this I know first-hand, because although I'm not a member (location's unhandy for me) I have gotten assignments from those people. As a freelancer, you may also like to check out Independent Writers of Southern California -- www.iwosc.org -- which meets more often and in more locations. |

Basically, I'm looking for something to replace the alumni events I attend now at the Berkeley journalism school, where editors from various publications come and offer insight, often tailored specifically to freelancers. Would the L.A. Press Club be my only sort of equivalent in SoCal or are there other resources I should know about? I'll be living in West L.A. |

Plus compared to NYC, there's not a lot of "print" in LA or organizations and clubs that cater to journalists or freelancers...everyone out here is writing scripts, not magazine or newspaper articles. |
