| sophiesMOM | Posted 4/21/2008 6:23:18 PM | show profile anybody have any experience with this site? my husband brought it to my attention...looks like auction type system where you bid on projects, and employers are rated according to...what, i'm not sure. i wonder if it's worth posting my resume. anyone? |
| Mag Girl | Posted 4/21/2008 6:48:18 PM | show profile I thought it was a complete waste of time when I tried it a few years ago. I saw a lot of projects that seemed to be nearly freebies - think 1-2 cents per word. |
| lilah78 | Posted 4/21/2008 7:43:52 PM | show profile | email poster I used it a couple of years ago when I was starting out -- it does seem to be largely people who want to pay $250-500 or less for a project that should pay a lot more, though there are some projects that pay much more. I got a few gigs through there, including one that became a very long-term thing. In that case and another, the employer paid me outside of Guru; in another, they paid me through the site. Ultimately, though, I didn't renew my subscription because it was kind of pricey relative to the amount of time I had to spend submitting proposals/bids to the number of projects I got. That said, I think it can be good, if you're willing to wade through the posts by people who either a. aren't very specific about what they want (and expect some brilliant proposal from you) and b. people who aren't willing to pay well for your services. Feel free to email me if you have more questions. Good luck! |
