I'm curious to learn more about the hardly-ever-talked-about career route. What does a career like this entail? What kind of experience do you need to have in order to be one? |
| p-punc | Posted 5/2/2008 10:41:34 PM | show profile all the scouts i know are very happy with their jobs. i don't know much about it (i'm on publishing side) but basically they act as journalists for the american book market for international publishers. they read lots of stuff (not slush! good books!) write reports, shmooze editors, and generally try and clue in their clients on what they should look into, what's not worth their time, etc. a couple of times a year they turn into escorts/assistants when scheduling meetings, going to book fairs in london/frankfurt, etc. they aren't on commission, they're more like consultants. |
