I have an interview coming up at a mid-size Midwestern children's book publishing and I want to make sure I am prepared for their editing test. What should I expect? What kind of familiarity should I have with the Chicago Manual of Style and their standards? Is that generally the norm for book publishers or does it vary? Finally, are the written editing marks still used and should I brush up on those?

Also, I have heard conflicting things on interview attire. The last time I had an interview, I wore a suit and felt very comfortable. Is it OK to skip the suit or is this an inappropriate move for a recent grad/entry level applicant?

Any advice would be really helpful...

Thanks!

I worked remotely for a publisher last year, and I'd say:

1. Know dates, comma rules, numbering, the big ideas. And know standard English grammar. You'd be surprised how many writers I have interviewed who don't.

2. Suit all the way. If you still don't think so, call and ask what they like to see at an interview. Many places prefer you to show up in business casual. Do what they say.

Cricket?
I'm jealous. Good luck. (Or, if you already went on the interview: I hope it went well.)
