| puddypop | Posted 4/24/2008 10:33:40 PM | show profile i have an acquaintance who wants me to proofread her 200 page dissertation in 3-4 days. i am hesitant to do it because i think it's going to take much longer to read through that much material. and she's paying $20/hour, which is not much. should i say yes? is it possible to proofread this much material in 3-4 days? |
| robbo | Posted 4/25/2008 9:59:54 AM | show profile I think it's possible to proofread 200 pages in 4 days. If you do 10 pages an hour, it's 20 hours of proofreading or about 5 hours a day. It could take longer, of course, if the material is really dense or really messy. |
| puddypop | Posted 4/25/2008 12:28:23 PM | show profile here's the thing i have a full-time job, and putting in 5 hours a day on top of that is going to be a little difficult. she says that it has already been proofread, but she needs another set of eyes to look it over, so it may not be heavy proofing. would it still take 5 hours a day to do go over it? |
| robbo | Posted 4/25/2008 12:52:48 PM | show profile It might. I'd ask if I could take a look at the dissertation (get a feel for what kind of shape it's in) before I said yes or no. |

| rhino writer | Posted 4/25/2008 2:14:16 PM | show profile I agree with catlondon, especially if she's expecting you to catch endnote and reference style problems. That can take a long time. All things considered, I don't think you should do it -- it'll be a rush job, which is probably not what she has in mind. |
