Any tips on locating/hiring local artists for illustrations on a shoe string?

Use clip art.

Anything done custom is worth paying for.

Your best bet is to find a student looking to build a portfolio...it may not be the best quality, but it is the only way to get it cheap. I agree with the other posters on the threads on this topic that keep popping up: you get what you pay for, and any artist worth anything has put in too much time and hard work to be paid nothing or next to nothing for their work.

Students may be willing.

Ask the artist's friends and associates. Hire a private investigator. Sign up for one of those "people finder" services online."

This is your great mind at work in my post in the beginner issue forum. I don't mind you following me around in Mediabistro, and posting. But on the other hand, it's inappropriate for you to be sarcastic with media questions that I might have.

To tell you the truth, I didn't notice *who* the OP was in this thread until you pointed it out in the nasty post above this one.

You just said yourself that finding students wasn't a bad idea. So what's the problem?

For those mystified by anovelfate's nasty to me, here's his/her question on finding a missing person from the beginners Forum:

>>I have been trying to get help finding an artist. Are there any people on this site who can give me some tips on this?<<

I stand by my statements to you; it is inappropriate to use sarcasm when answering media questions that I might have. I was addressing JKDSCRIBE's advice to find a student.

The other posted and I submitted our posts within seven seconds of each other. That's why I said "great minds ..."

Can you take a deep breath and reconsider what you believe to be sarcasm?
