I came across this article the other day, and thought it was worth passing on. The US government has stopped using the term 'Jihadist' and the like to describe al-Qaida.

quote

Per the AP report, the NCTC memorandum tells federal agencies that they are not to use the terms: "jihadist", "jihadi", "mujahedeen". Specifically, the NCTC memorandum states: "Never use the terms 'jihadist' or 'mujahedeen' in conversation to describe the terrorists... Calling our enemies 'jihadis' and their movement a global 'jihad' unintentionally legitimizes their actions." It also states: "We are communicating with, not confronting, our audiences. Don't insult or confuse them with pejorative terms such as 'Islamo-fascism,' which are considered offensive by many Muslims."

the full article with links can be read at:

I found this interesting. On a personal note, I thought the government was doing itself a major disservice when using the word 'Islamofascists' as it negatively branded the whole religion and not just the actions of extremists.

Frank, this is where you show your true colors...

You can't tell the difference between the faith, and the people who mis-apply their faith. Islam is not the reason these extremists are doing what they are doing. It is a distorted until it fits their desired needs. This is what the government is attempting to do, not brandish the whole Muslim faith as evil because of the actions of a few.

Would you blame Christianity when a religious nutjob shoots an abortion doctor? Hopefully not. Hopefully you would have enough of a world view to differentiate between the actions of an individual (or a collective group) vs that of a faith.

"Frank, this is where you show your true colors..."

If you take the time, you'll see this creep shows its true colors in just about any thread going back months and months, that's why MB by its own admission created this and the current issues forum - to keep fascist scum like FrankieLogo/RonnieRacist away from people. But on second thought, don't waste your time, reading even one of his rants is a waste of time.

"Jihadi" doesn't exist in Classical Arabic. It's a Western invented word. What they mean to say is "mujahid".

Jihad = "struggle"
Mujahid = "One who engages in struggle"
Mujahideen= "A group of persons that engage in struggle"

Also:

In Islam, this concept of "struggle" is associated with physical or spiritual struggle.

For example: A "mujahid" might engage in an introspective "jihad" (often with the help of a mosque imam) to determine if it's OK to, say, watch Arabic pop videos or determine if it's OK not to pray on a commercial flight.

Yes, I know: more ugly nuance for the mouse minded Americans to digest, but in fact jihad is not: "one who murders innicetn non-combatants in the name of God". Sorry to be so pedantic! LOL!

Also interesting to not:

student = "talib"
students = "tulab"

The term "Taleban" means "students" but it's not grammatically correct Arabic. It comes form the bastardization of the grammar by Urdu speakers.

If you wanted to be ultra-correct, the Taleban should actually be called the "Tulab".

I find it ironic since the Taleban are about as intellectually curious as Frank seems to be.

OOPSI let me correct myself:

Change this:

In Islam, this concept of "struggle" is associated with physical or spiritual struggle.

To this:

In Islam, this concept of "struggle" can also be associated with physical or spiritual struggle as well as physical struggle with those perceived to be attacking the faith. (And unfortunately in political Islam it is used as the "opiate for the masses" to get them gun-ho ready to figth the infidel -- which has always been OK with Ameirca when they were killing Godless Commies that had invaded some shit-hole country filled with lunatics, but not so OK when they use jihad to fight the invasion and occupation of a major oil supplier by the United States of America, who really would like to see these NeoLiberal "profit sharing agreements" so badly that they;'ve just built the largest military-occupation garrison ever constructed in world history in Baghdad.
