He also wrote the Knock em dead guide to getting a job, which I think is superior. IMO, your one-page cover letter should indicate why you fit the profile of the person they're looking for (three major points?) and why you're a great candidate for the job. For tone, think professional, not desperate; think confident, not braggodocio. Use professional format (I like letterhead with your name, etc at top, centered; the addressee's address; Dear Mr. xyz (make sure you have the right person -- make phone inquiries anonymously if need be to ascertain) Attach your best-foot-forward resume; Also, try putting a more specific subject line on your thread: Cover letter for internship app -- help! Somthing like that -- to try and attract people who have had internships. Good luck. Good for you for putting some thought and effort into it. |
