Good Lord! We go away for a couple days and look what happens. I feel like a teacher who's just returned to the classroom to discover a room full of screaming kids breaking stuff and hurling chairs out the window.

I have banned a couple people who were either insulting others or simply contributing nothing of value to the discussion. I have also deleted as many of the offensive posts as I could stomach (if there are any particularly offensive gems from oceanvue that I missed, please send me the link.) And I moved threads that had nothing to do with TV news.

Going forward, please heed these rules or you will be banned:

1. No personal attacks on other members. Do I even need to tell you that?

2. We're generally not going to be scrutinizing the quality of your posts, but if your entire catalogue consists of two-line posts, one of which is "Ha ha ha", that suggests your contribution is somewhat less than substantive.

3. Posts that don't have anything to do with TV news should not be posted in this forum. If it's just about politics, put it in Current Events.

4. Don't engage trolls by descending to their level. Just like your parents, we don't care who started it.

5. For God's sake, if someone else is violating any of these other rules, don't start a new thread to attack them! It's like leaving a giant piece of trollbait; they will inevitably respond, and we'll have an entire thread of substance-free ad-hominems. Instead, send us an email, preferably with links to the offending post. (And thank you to those who did just that to alert us to this weekend's feces-throwing extravaganza.)

Most of all, though, just use a little courtesy and common sense. Don't write anything you wouldn't say to someone's face. Take a moment before you hit the Submit button and decide if your post is really adding to the level of discourse, or subtracting from it.

Most of you do write interesting, thoughtful posts, and we really appreciate your contributions. I'm just sorry those contributions so often get crowded out by the shouters.

Great News
I look forward to seeing that the rules are enforced this time.

By the way, is thread hijacking allowed?
