Topic: Deleting Posts..........

| seeattleme | Posted 4/30/2008 5:30:05 PM | show profile yeah, I had a totally harmless, innocuous post about changing screen names deleted. It was weird. |
| thevertman | Posted 4/30/2008 5:39:39 PM | show profile Not sure about deleting posts, not had it happen to me yet. But after the garbage (and I do mean garbage) that was rampant in the TV News section for weeks and weeks it's not surprising that those people are being dealt with. I mean how tiresome is it to open thread after thread only to see the same moron posting "Fox News is Number One in the ratings" repeatedly. And everything about the subject ends up being lost when everyone else begins arguing with that moron. It's called thread hi-jacking. I think the mods are at least trying to stop that. |
| noname1234 | Posted 4/30/2008 5:58:22 PM | show profile I would rather have the mods try to clear out the garbage, even if a few innocuous posts get caught in the sweep-out, than make no attempt to keep things on track. Criticizing/insulting public figures is a completely different thing than attacking fellow posters. Public officials are pretty much fair game, I think -- I mean, if the mods started deleting posts that included insults directed at politicians, there'd be nothing left here about Bush at all! |
| noname1234 | Posted 4/30/2008 6:22:11 PM | show profile The quotes about HRC you cited in another thread that offended you were about her "crazed buggy eyes" and her "horse laugh." To me, that's far from qualifying as "filth." You can always let a moderator know if you think something has crossed a line set by the Terms of Service. | mb_greg | Posted 4/30/2008 7:44:24 PM | show profile | email poster I pulled all of the offensive posts I could find. Most of those were from a certain late, unlamented commenter, and there were so many that I couldn't be bothered to look up the context of every single one. Sorry if that confused anyone, but trust me, they weren't adding much to the discussion. In other cases, I removed entire threads that were either complaining about the complainers, or had been turned into such empty shells after the offending posts had been removed that there was no longer any point in leaving them up. noname pretty much nailed our criteria for what will get a post pulled: attacks on public figures will get a lot more latitude than attacks on fellow posters. But yes, there is a line that no post should cross. np, if there are any of those offensive posts still up there, please send me the links (just click on the "email poster" link above) and I'll take a look. Similarly, if anyone feels that one of your posts has been deleted unfairly, let me know that as well. But I assure you we're not doing it capriciously. Hope this was helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions. ------ Greg Membership Director mediabistro.com |
| seeattleme | Posted 4/30/2008 7:49:39 PM | show profile Greg, so why exactly was my post about changing my screen name from doglady to granite girl because my dog died deleted? I don't care much eitherwhichway. But you say you're not doing it randomly, so I'm just curious. |
| noname1234 | Posted 4/30/2008 8:08:13 PM | show profile seattle, is this the post you're talking about? It's still live (5th from top in this thread) https://www.mediabistro.com/bbs/cache/t38682_1.asp |
| seeattleme | Posted 4/30/2008 9:42:31 PM | show profile wow. it was deleted when Mirage was stalking me for a while back (about three weeks ago. Glad to see it's back on. Note: If you work for Mediabistro, greg, shouldn't you bre required to say so on this board? |
| noname1234 | Posted 4/30/2008 10:17:49 PM | show profile The thread in question was in the TV News section, so it's possible you might have forgotten where it was located, since it was a bit incongruous with its section (I found it my searching on Doglady in the search box; I think it was the first or second result). He does say so: - he has a signature line at the end of his all his posts that says Greg Membership Director mediabistro.com - his screenname starts with "mb_" which is the site's format for staff members. |
| noname1234 | Posted 4/30/2008 10:18:54 PM | show profile Sorry, I mean to say above that Greg does identify himself as an MB staffer in all his posts |
| seeattleme | Posted 4/30/2008 11:45:15 PM | show profile I know GREG says he does on this post. I was referring to OTHER posters who seem to have a curious obsession with my posts, post history, etc. So GREG: If someone works for Mediabistro, shouldn't he or she be obligated to say so on this board? UNless noname and Greg are the same person? Cause this is getting a little weird. Greg has not responded. Noname has responded immediatedly. Do MB employees post under assumed names? Is that ethical?I don't care one way or another, but it seems.. . I don't know, why not just post under your MB name if you are an MB employee and thus have access to everyone's identity/accoutn info? Just a thought. |
| noname1234 | Posted 4/30/2008 11:54:06 PM | show profile I can assure you, I am not Greg and I am not an MB employee. He probably hasn't posted because it's now 11pm on the East Coast and be probably left the office 5 or 6 hours ago -- though if he comes back here tomorrow or some other time I'm sure he can clarify for himself. |
| seeattleme | Posted 5/1/2008 2:45:52 AM | show profile somethings rotting in Denmark... |
| mb_greg | Posted 5/1/2008 3:28:40 PM | show profile | email poster I can assure you that noname and I are different people, and also that noname is not a mediabistro.com employee. For one thing, if an employee spent as much time posting on our forums as noname does, they'd never get any work done. :-) Seriously, we have no interest in deceiving you guys -- we WANT you to know when a post comes from one of us. That said, we certainly do appreciate it when longtime members chime in and help out. We can't be everywhere at once, especially not at 11 p.m. Seattleme, I honestly don't know what happened to your post. We generally don't disable threads and then restore them. But like I said, if you ever feel like a post has been pulled unfairly, just let us know and we'll look into it. ------ Greg Membership Director mediabistro.com |
