1. How many millionaires do you know?
Quite a few.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear?
It's hard enough to get me to iron a shirt, let alone my socks or underwear.

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person?
Yes, on Facebook.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check?
I don't get one.

5. In what ways are you unreliable?
I'm late. Always. It's like my biological clock is just chronically set to be 5 minutes slower than everyone else's.

6. Have you ever stalked someone?
Nope.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you?
I don't think I've done anything that's too special.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns?
Absolutely Fabulous.

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally?
Every single day. Ah, the life of a writer.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning?
Ugh, I'm tired.

~Bonus Question~
Time for another random brag. Tell us something wonderful about you.
Umm...
Hmm....
What is this, a self-esteem class?!
.....
Well, I'm a pretty good writer. That counts.

Caitlin, sending you healing light for your surgery. I second what Mag Girl said. Get to PT as soon as possible. Please keep us posted!

1. How many millionaires do you know?
Quite a few, but only due to the area where I live.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear?
I never have but my grandmother used to do this. She would also iron her sheets, pillow cases and towels. What a monumental waste of time.

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person?
There is a particular MB'er that I email reguarly and hopefully will meet in person one day soon.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check?
Buy something stimulating. I was checking out vibrators online last night and thinking of going with the Hitachi rabbit. Not sure what I will do with the remainder of the check though.

5. In what ways are you unreliable?
I say yes too often in order to avoid hurting feelings, and then have to find excuses to back out.
I have three events I am supposed to attend this Saturday--a bar mitzvah (I've never been to one), a wine and cheese party and dinner with friends. I'm thinking the bar mitzvah will win. Might meet a nice man there. What is the word for a non-Jewish female? Goyim, Goy?

6. Have you ever stalked someone?
Kind of. She was the ex-girlfriend of a man I was dating and I was quite jealous of her for reasons I'm still not sure. I found out where she worked, found her phone number and would leave rude, anonymous messages (this was before caller id), and was sort of fascinated by her. Fortunately this only lasted a few months and I got over it. I was also much younger at the time. I would not do something like that now.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you?
Through the EMT work that I do, I guess. I just try to treat everyone with compassion and kindness.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns?
Seinfeld, I Dream of Jeannie, The Newlywed Game and Love Connection.

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally?
Two professionally and once personally.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning?
In no particular order: Coffee; feed the dogs; what fresh hell will this day bring; do I have a clean bra; I have to pee; do I have to shave my nether regions today; thank God I'm alive.

~Bonus Question~
Time for another random brag. Tell us something wonderful about you.
April was a very hard month for me on many levels and I made it through intact. I really am stronger than I give myself credit for, which was a wonderful discovery.

Thanks very much for your good wishes..will check in as soon as fingers allow.

jbe: the word is shiksa (sp?)
keltoi: Tell 'em "it's all relative"
Pb: kind and stalwart is about as good as it gets. I think of you often and hope you are doing OK.

JBE
A gentile woman would be referred as a "Shiksa" not a "Goy." A "Goy" is a non-Jew who assists a Jew. A Jewish matchmaker is a "Yenta." "Mazel Tov" means Good Luck!

Hope that helps you if you attend the bar mitzvah. :)

Gilmore Girls used to come on ABC family in the early evening. I think it still does, though I'm not usually home in time to catch it.

1. How many millionaires do you know? Met too many to count, but don't know any well.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear? HAHAHAHAHAHA

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person? Yup. Met a great New Orleans-based writer when I was editing in NYC. We still keep in touch.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check? Sashimi dinner and pay bills.

5. In what ways are you unreliable? I've really come unglued in the past year or so. Used to be totally reliable. Hope the pendulum swings back soon.

6. Have you ever stalked someone? Sort of. Have been Googling one of my exes on a regular basis since the birth of Google. Finally got a hit this week. At least he still has his hair. Haven't attempted to contact him, and probably won't, except he is the only link to a dear friend that I've lost touch with and would really like to find.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you? Humanity? Not sure. Stray dogs and cats? That's another story.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns? Law & Order, Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Twilight Zone, Monty Python, The French Chef

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally? Hmmm. Again, not sure.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning? Hope we make it outside before Hoagy piddles.

~Bonus Question~
Time for another random brag. Tell us something wonderful about you. At the age of 50, my stepmother gave birth to twin girls. At 40, I was thrilled to finally have sisters. My dad worries that he talks about them too much and that I might be jealous, but honestly, they are just the bees knees.
pamelabeth Posted – 5/1/2008 3:11:42 PM | show profile
janet--yes, shiksa is the word! re plans: if you had to send an rsvp card back for the bat mitzvah, i'd say go, as they'll likely have a namecard/seat assignment for you and your meal purchased from the caterer. it's embarrassing for all when namecards/seats sit unclaimed.... plus, those things can be kind of fun and yes, who knows, you might meet a nice guy. at the least, you'll probably have the chance to dance with the bat mitzvah girls grandma to "we are family."

thanks (always) for good wishes from all. i am halfway done with chemo now--woohoo!! and totally working, seeing friends, living my life, with no plans to cut back.

pamelabeth Posted – 5/1/2008 3:13:30 PM | show profile
i hate typos--meant "girl's grandma..."

also, mag, please tell: how did your 50-year-old stepmom have twins?

1. How many millionaires do you know? In a meeting this a.m., I was the only one in a full room that wasn't loaded. Through the work I have done, I meet a lot of people who are extremely financially successful, and so does the husband through his endeavors, so I spend a lot of time with people who spend more on haircuts than I do on groceries. I wish I were guilty by association.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear? I have with undies. Some were really wrinkled and my skirt was fitted and I don't wear slips, so I had to. You should have heard the husband guffaw. Getting him to even wait around for an ironed shirt is an impossibility. The people he works with much think I'm a terrific clod, considering how he often he looks dishevled.

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person? Everyone on here! And a few through business. I have one client in India who I have never met, but I consider him a good friend that is gracious beyond words. Some day I hope to meet him. If he's half as cool as he is through the business processs, he would be extraordinary in person.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check?
I'm not going to spend a dime of it.

5. In what ways are you unreliable? I'm terrible, horrible with dates and numbers. For a whole year I thought I was a year older than I actually was. I am serious. It's truly pathetic.

6. Have you ever stalked someone?
No. Been a few times myself. Once by a boyfriend's former girlfriend, and a couple of times by creepy weird guys.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you? I try to help people and animals whenever I can. I stop for accidents and animals who are loose, too. I want to lend a hand whenever possible. I just think that if it were me in that situation, I would want help that wasn't out for something in return.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns?
All in the Family, SNL

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally? My youngest child refused to hug me goodbye the other morning in front of his friends. I understand that he has to be cool, but it still hurt. He's getting older and not too long ago he wouldn't have thought twice about throwing his arms aorund me in public.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning? Teeth need to be brushed. NOW.

~Bonus Question~
Time for another random brag. Tell us something wonderful about you.

I kicked ass this morning. I really stepped up to the plate and had a good level of audacity going. I'm going to pat myself on my back for the rest of the week. I know I was effective.

Robbo, helping animals is a great cause. I was talking to my son yesterday and he was telling me about the euthanasia rate of animals in his city. It made me so upset. The abuse of dogs and kitties is horrifying. I have an extreme dislike for irresponsible breeders and pet owners who discard their pets because they are no longer cute. So, you have a friend here!

Thanks, not priveledged. Animal abuse and irresponsible owners/breeders upset me, too.
wineaux Posted – 5/1/2008 3:49:21 PM | show profile
My God, Janet, I think you stalked me! That's EXACTLY what my ex bf's old girlfriend did to me. lol Except, instead of calling and leaving me mean messages, she called my place of work and kept asking for me, but I never took her calls. God knows what she was going to say to me. I shudder to think.

Spoooooky.

1. How many millionaires do you know?
None, because the yacht club kicked me out.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear?
Geez, are you kidding? They're lucky if they get washed, although you'd never know it because of all the... stains.

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person?
Well.....

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check?
I plan to stimulate something.

5. In what ways are you unreliable?
In every way. You can't turn your back on me for a second.

6. Have you ever stalked someone?
Not as a human, although maybe as a cat.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you?
Believe me, its not.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns?
Well lets see, "Here come the Brides", "My mother the Car", "Family Affair", "Please don't eat the Daisies", "Flipper", "The Waltons", "The Brady Bunch" and my all time favorite, "The Partridge Family"

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally?
My daughter told me she loves mommy more.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning?
Am I naked?

~Bonus Question~

I believe the above answers pretty well sum things up.

1. How many millionaires do you know?

A bunch -- of course, a millionaire's not what it used to be back in the day!

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear?
Uh - no. I hardly iron anything anymore.

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person?
Yes. A few good pals I met on mediabistro. A couple people I have interviewed who have turned into friends.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check? Help pay for groom's dinner for son's wedding.

5. In what ways are you unreliable? I'm bad with checkbooks. I'm back with "stuff" -- at the paper I refuse to take people's precious pics in to scan later.

6. Have you ever stalked someone? No. I have had someone stalking my family, all the while proclaiming I'm stalking them.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you? A school in East Texas took the theme song I wrote in 1997 and made it their school song. I spearheaded a successful effort to bring cameras, recording devices into our district courts. I have produced three lovely kids.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns? West Wing all the way. Sometimes Dead Zone or Quantum Leap. Some MASH, most Seinfeld. I hardly ever watch, though.

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally?
A couple, professionally, by people bitter that I went to work fulltime for the competition. It really doesn't bug me, though. Such people are too petty to triful with

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning? Is it already that late?

~Bonus Question~
Time for another random brag. Tell us something wonderful about you. I can play piano by ear, and I love to do so. I sing at funerals.

Hey NP:

All my "kids" are fine. Thanks for asking.
fourfold Posted – 5/2/2008 12:25:49 PM | show profile
1. I think I may be one, or close to it. My husband and I have investments totaling maybe $400K to $500K. Owe only $70K on a home that would sell for the low 400's.

2. Hell no.

3. I did when I was younger. I had a pen pal named Sue Jessop in England. She sent me an address book for Christmas that was stamped "Made in China."

4. Pay off a (very small) part of my home equity line of credit. We are redoing our bathrooms. Total tab will be about $40K. Cancel what I said about possibly being a millionaire.

5. When I say yes to social obligations I shoulda turned down. I hem, haw, am tardy or cancel last-minute.

6. No, but I've been tempted.

7. I volunteer at an animal shelter and have helped match people with pets.

8. America's Next Top Model--can't get enough.

9. None that I can think of. Maybe I'm playing it too safe. Also, "rejection" is relative. I've been brushed off, maybe.

10. A guy I have a crush on and when I will see him next.

Bonus: I have perfect pitch.

A day late, but still here
1. How many millionaires do you know? I knew several when I was working in the entertainment industry and event planning. Some were great -- nice, fun and decent. Others, yikes! But, you can say that about any group, right? Currently, I don't know any millionaires. Unless one of my friends recently won Lotto and has not shared the news.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear? NO!

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person? Used to email another writer whom I met on MB a long time ago. We corresponded daily and then, poof, she vanished into thin air.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check?
Pay bills. Now, that will really stimulate the economy.
Pay bills, or buy gas for the car, I should say. Grrr, hurry Jan 20, 2009.

5. In what ways are you unreliable? I think I am a very reliable person. I really am proud of that, so include that in my random brag, please.

6. Have you ever stalked someone? No, but have been stalked. When I first moved to L.A. Very scary situation.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you? I am a kind and caring person. I enjoy helping others and mentoring people, too. I think just being a good and loving family member and friend makes all the difference in the world and is a person's greatest legacy. My dad was one of the kindest and generous people I ever met. He passed away several years ago and people lstill tell me of the small and big ways he impacted their lives for the best. That makes me feel so grateful that he was in my life for as long as he was.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns? Seinfeld episodes. Still find them incredibly funny.

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally? Have not been pitching as much as I should. No professional rejections this month. I have felt a bit rejected by a few close friends who have not been in touch of late. I chalk that up to people being busy, but often I feel as if I am the one who keeps friendships going and I am a bit put off by that this week.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning? 'Feed the cats." They are my alarm clocks and they get me up earlier and earlier of late.

Note to Caitlin, good luck with your surgery. That's a painful one, so take it slow and have someone pamper you!

Wineaux, loved what you said about stepping up to the plate and kicking ass. Good for you!!!
wineaux Posted – 5/2/2008 3:55:03 PM | show profile
thanks cori.

Also, Caitlin.....I hope you are o.k. Keep that arm moving after the surgery!

1. How many millionaires do you know? -- A couple, maybe more. My father added up all his assets a few years ago, and it came to over a million. With a decent house on the East Coast and some IRA's, it's not hard to hit that amount.

2. Do you now, or have you ever, ironed your socks and underwear? -- No, what a waste of time!

3. Do you have email friends or pen pals that you have never met in person? -- Yes, several from other boards.

4. How do you plan to use your "stimulus" check? -- put it in savings.

5. In what ways are you unreliable? -- I hate returning phone calls. I put them off.

6. Have you ever stalked someone? -- Maybe guilty of a little cyber-stalking, but then, it may have just be counted "checking up" on someone's story.

7. In what ways is humanity better because of you? -- I produced many beautiful books covers, and two beautiful children.

8. What are your favorite TV show reruns? -- Persoanlly, once I've seen a show, I rarely want to watch it again for years. But I did recently get a set of old Englsigh TV show (The Avengers; The Pallisers) that I've enjoyed.

9. How many times this past month were you rejected either personally or professionally? -- None.

10. What is generally your first thought upon waking up in the morning? Argh! It is time to get up already?

~Bonus Question~
Time for another random brag. Tell us something wonderful about you. -- A series of covers I designed last year was in the NY Bookbinder's Guild Book Show in March.

A quick left-handed hello...surgery was fast and simple. A pain block did its job v nicely -- made my right eye look like a cubist painting for a while as it blocked nerves up and down my r. side.

the fiance is being a saint...pt this morning...

thanks for wishes and prayers.

Feel better soon, Caitlin! And surgery, along with many other tough times, are a fine opportunity to show true love. You'll take your turn someday!
